OK ppl, Sorry for not answering before, but I check this section only once a week or so, as most of what you talk about here is gibberish to me ;-) Now to the point- This had been tried before on the 604 list- someone took it upon himself to do the hard work (that costs money as well)- and lost money! It wasn't a good experience. Nobody really heard about this compilation, nor about the music & artists featured there. This is not so simple. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try and make it happen- there are two ways to make this happen-
1. as a proper compilation through a label- standing all standards of professional releases. This means that everything needs to be top quality. Now even if you got the tracks for free (meaning people contributing just get percentage of the earnings, if there are any), the cover for free, and you do all the work around it ourselves (A&R, office work, etc. etc.), you still have the following: a) Production- you can't release anymore under-produced music- the standards are up- way up! Since most people here are beginners, that means you'll need someone to produce them- that costs money! Hardly any trance label does that really anyway (unfortunately). b) Distribution- without good distribution, there are no sales- distributors want money- for a CD to sell it needs to be able to attract people to buy it (in the distributor's eyes, and not only his)- this goes especially in trance since there are 100s of labels popping everywhere lately. c) Costs- mastering, covers, CDs.
I think this option is not realistic, even if I use all my "connections", Yoni.
2. Make a web-based independent music release, doing it for fun and not sales, hoping to cover the expenses. This has been done at the ambient list, and worked OK. Check www.cdstreet.com (that's how they released it). This way it is possible to do it- you still need someone to take the coordination of all the work (and deciding what tracks go there) on himself. There will still be a need for money to be put into it. Take into consideration that this sort of thing needs to have a big community backing- since it mainly depends on the people of the community buying it. I'm not sure this forum will be enough, but you can get the GTC list involved- that's about 400 people more for you.
This options seems more realistic- but you need to be serious about it. I don't have the time or will to organize such a thing, but I'll be happy to help in all I can those who do, including asking the help of my friends in the trance "industry" here. Good luck! |

People forget it. First of all you need to have good tracks and very important!! Good production!!! Nothing sells today with shit sound. Unless someone is willing to produce the tracks nothing is going to happen. |

This is how our dream ends... I just want to add one thing - take care of yourselfs, try to release your stuff before and then maybe we will think about this compilation with other artists (as the chaishop compilations). |
