surprised it has got this far with no-one mention filter key-tracking...

and the fact that most digital oscs are band-width limited.          .

I was sure we are talking about musical instruments in general - in the real world.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

yeah, the first thing i thought of when i read his follow-up.

for more control, you can simply duplicate the track and tweak it differently to fix it in the mix better for that section. this way each instance will only play the sections they've been tweaked for.

or you can simply automate the channel volume, in case changing velocity changes the character of the sound too much (if it's a multi-sampled patch).

my tip =)

-use hifi speakers when arranging songs.
-You've less care of dynamics and the mix when using "poor" hifi speakers which give a colour to sound. concentrate on composing =)
-when you get track finished disable all effects and inserts and export every single track in wav format to new session
-export also your demo version to be used later
-switch audio out to your Studio Monitors which have a flat frequency response
-mix and find the nature of the track with studio minitors. it's nice to fix dynamics problems with compressor, expander, limiter, non linear eq =)
-Now you hear all conflicts and dynamics differences between sounds and notes.
-compare your demo song nature to final mix
-then learn to master =)
