I tend to not comment those albums I've bought that I've been dissapointed with. Sometimes I'm mostly dissapointed that artists don't dare go out of their "comfort zone" with their sounds and explore new styles. By far the biggest problem in ambient / downtempo for me.
However, I really value the opportunity to say hi to the artists that are active here, and give them good feedback when they deserve it.

I think that if we are not professional reviewers then our views will be a bout music we enjoy and therefore always positive.
I find reading reviews here is good to get a general idea about said album, but usually I then surf around the web to find other views and compare them.
I don't think that people are concerned about hurting feeling etc., if you cannot take negative feedback then you need to evaluate where you stand in your field of work.
I also think that sometimes an artist does not need to go out of their comfort zone to improve, many of my fav release & names stay within their comfort zone but develop within it.
I personally give good feedback when it's deserved, and if I have nothing nice to say then I prefer not to say it online.
Worst thing I'll say online is something like I did not enjoy said album.
Funny thing is that I hardly have any bad things to say about the music I have simply because over the last 15 years I'm at the point where I know how to make wise choices and it is rare that I'll buy something that completely disappoints me.
I have about 60 chillout/ambient albums on my iPhone playlist right now, and I enjoy all of them.
My only current complaint is that when I get into bed and pop my headphones on to read my book, the music sends me to sleep before I can enjoy the whole album hehe

One of the main reasons for the overdose of positivity is that very rarely does ambient evoke sharp reactions like its distant cousin psytrance. Ambient could be boring or generic sounding but doesn't, don't want to speak for everyone here, cross the 'negative' zone. And i make a distinction between music that is generic and one that demands some criticism is that most downtempo generic music too has its own purpose and can always be put to some use or the other as opposed to bad music in other genres of electronic which would be better off never made in the first place.

let construct some negativity ....
90% of what this ambient section offer to us is cheese ...
would be nice to see more composers into electro-acoustic sounds than plastic vst synths .....
thought : this cheese might be very good for swiss fondue ....
