I found this article online and wanted to know if its common to read reports like this in India.
Especially love the 'inhalin drugs' bit.
17 foreigners died in Goa this year
Panaji: Death of foreign tourists visiting Goa has been on a rise with 17 cases already been registered in just two months this year in the state. With Goa increasingly becoming a hot spot for drug abuse, the involvement of tourists is evident from the fact that nearly half of the people arrested in narcotics cases were foreigners.
Police sources said that many of them who died were found to be drug addicts. Last year, the death toll was 59. And 55 foreigners died in the previous year. The police records reveals that in half of the cases, the cause of death is unknown sans the viscera report. In 2008, the number of such cases sent for chemical analysis of viscera is 6 out of 12.
"The viscera report basically establishes whether there is presence of drugs in the stomach or is it poison. Depending on it, section 302 of IPC (murder) can be invoked in these cases," a senior police officer said.
"Visit any rave party and you will find hoard of foreigners inhaling drugs. The coastal belt is getting increasingly ruined with the drug rackets," a police officer said.
The Goa police website lends an insight into foreigner's link with drug cartels in the state. The anti-narcotic cell has found almost 50 per cent of its drug accused as foreign tourists. In 2006, 25 people were arrested under NDPS Act out of which 15 were foreigners. In 2005, of the 26 people arrested, 10 were foreigners.

yep , actually from last 9-10 years this has been the case ,
the time people frm all over the globe woke up to goa , it is quite common to see reports like these..
sadly most of them are british tourists who are often the ones suffering
consuming dangerous substances ......getting easily fooled by the locals leading up to various events resulting in this thing
though all these reports just have new numbers , other spice is all same frm last so many years , raves and raves and foreigners taking drugs , coastal belt n all that ..LOL
... the parties are so less ,
foreigners who are dying are mostly commercial tourist types ( calangute-baga types =) ) in those zones
and not because of raves in the waves

Very common indeed... People who write such shit articles don't even bother scratching below the surface a bit...inhaling drugs? what drugs???wind from the buttocks???? i dunno.... |

n its not just deaths, i was in goa for 10 days n 2-3 ppl were flown str8 out coz they had totally flipped out. this again is going to give goa a horrible name worldwide n then everythings gonna stop.

each and every time ive been to goa, it just keeps getting worse. u can feel the vibe all around you. its not a happy hippy vibe, its all boils down to money.....every1's out to make a fast buck, and nobody gives a f*ck!
truly sad state of affairs....its the people that make a place good or bad, and beautiful goa is filled with uglies.

This is what the stupid police wants the public to believe so that they could turn the focus away from the real culprits. The real culprits ( the bar owner and others ) are trying too hard to shift the focus and now they are trying to prove her to be 18+ yrs of age so that the rape charges against them will be removed.
disguisting state of affairs..everytime a local goan commits a crime, they turn the spotlight on drugs, trance and hippies and let out the real culprits.

As for as i know of, the culprits are arguing that the it was sex with consent and so if she is proved to be 18+, the rape charges will be dropped .
