faxinadu, i actually use it a lot. just hold to the center of where you wish to zoom in (in Live6) and pull the mouse down. simple and concise. i also like in the arrangement view how one can zoom in from any location in the track. i think the setup of the zoom is quite nice. |

live is good for live, but some audiophile friends claim the sound is inferior to a DAW |

I don't agree it might sound different at times but not necessarly inferior. second the wrap fonction needs to be mastered a bit. there are different modes with differents settings they are there for a reason....

| Cubase can surely handle better your CPU management regarding real time effects and vsti.
It is that the algorythms are bettrer, all the engine will work better on cubase, when it comes to inserts, gui, etc.

Again I don't agree. I use live 6, thats the current version and the only one people with modern machine should go for. It handles multi core very well. I dont freeze, my projects are very heavy, and the cpu is not overloaded. If you have an old machine then you'll probably feel more confortable with an older Daw.
Cubase is still a great tool for mixing, I use it for that reason. When it comes to song writing I cannot think of something more creative or flexible than live.
I did have some issue with sound but that was due to wrong settings or way of doing things rather than live.

Live is different and therefore you need to adapt. but doing it the live way won't take me more time.
To this I add cubase is not better for audio , live is faster and more flexible.one of live's main strengh is in the audio editing in my opinion.
Here's the tip: live is all about shortcut, since many commands can only be operate with your left hand, so forget the mouse. Live forces u to be a power user. If you don't, well... you are going to be very limited. |

Seriously though, does anybody know if you can crossfade the ends of 2 audio clips together on one track without using 2 tracks????
If you could that would seriously step up the usability of it, at least as a notepad for making a basic layout of a song before importing into cubase.

^^ yep My main problem with Live in comparison to cubase is the midi/audio editing
I find it terribly slow and unintuitive...
When this is improved I'll definately look into using live in the studio.
Energyxt2 is also looking pretty good to me at the moment, its still got a few bugs to be ironed out, but seems very much like cubase in workflow, the programs a little over 1 mg in size, doesn't need to be installed to work, and costs 75$....
all the dude ever wanted... was his rug back...

Yeah I have to agree about the lack of certain audio and midi editing features in live. The more I use Cubase the more it becomes indispensable. I keep finding more things about it I like and that I can't find in any other program. Once you get used to it you start to flow quickly in it (as with live I'm sure).
I own a licence of energyXT2 as well. I wrote one track in it. It's very quick & easy to use and I could see it becoming a great program in the future. The modular aspect of it really is nice for routing within the program.
I'm tired of trying different programs though, I just want to make music now and I can do that without problems in cubase so thats where I'm going to stay at least for a good while until I feel limited by it and find something that doesn't limit me.
