When I am watching movies on my pc the volume is too low when people are whispering and I wake up all the neighbours when there is a gunshot or people are shouting. Is there a way to route windvd to cubase or soundforge and use a compressor?
I have an RME hammerfall and ac97 onboard sound.
Thanks

I have got a EMU1212 and it got some dsp effects, like a limiter. I the limiter on the main asio bus while watching movies, coz of the same reasons.

I don't know about your card, do u have dsps?

Else u could rip the audiotrack, compress the hell out of it and re-encode the movie with the new audio. But this would be shit-work before watching :|            Signature

it's because u use ur music stereo, then u always sound like a cinema... Music stereo's don't attenuate voices like a tv-set does...

Just cut the basses heavily and enhance the treble a little, the voices should become more audible and the surrounding sound shouldn't be as powerfull anymore (they do that especially for cinema, to make everything sound big and boomy, so on ur home stereo everything will sound boomy too).

If that's not the problem, then get a decent dvd-rip instead of screener.

I think that windows media player has an option under:

view->enhancements->quiet mode

which compresses the output to bring up the volume of quiet sections.
