Hey guys!
i got one question about Audio Export!

When you bounch a midi track to audio you get a volume loss, could you say that this is a quality loss?

What is the explaination for this phenomenon!

and what do you do to remedy it, Raise the volume on the channel to max without clipping before you export, or do you just amplify it in the audio editor after you exported it?

any rules here in terms of quality?

just curious!

uuhm.,, if you're talking about bouncing a plugin then there is propably something wrong with your gain stages.,
i don't know what sequencer u use but it should be a 1 to 1 copy of the synth output.,
so check if all your levels are at 0db

Also check which pan law you sequencer is using... this can mean mono sounds are 3 or 6dB quieter on bouncedown. A quick fix for this is to pan any mono tracks hard to one side when bouncing; should come back in at the right level.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

ZilDoggo and Colin hey m8s!

Im using Cubase SX2...

well you see, the output of that channel was not at 0dB it was at -6dB, but you think it should come out the way it is, instead it came out at -9dB.

I got Dr008 playing a kickdrum with compression and EQ, sent to a group channel with the bass and kick and a multiband compressor on that..

when i exported the kick it was a 3dB difference, so what you are saying Colin makes sense, i will check it out! is it under preferences? the pan law thingy?

Thanks for your inputs guys i will take a look and see what can be done... probably best to be on the safe side and bounch at 0dB and check that pan thing...

anyway this is not the first time iv experienced this with volume loss...

i don't know cubase very well, but if the -6 db is from the kick channel then maybe it doesnt include the group channel levels,.,
do you see this -6db at the outputs?.,

ZilDoggo,

yes the group channel is included, when i solo the kick channel the group channel gets solo aswell.. and it was peaking at -6db

though i saw that i must have touched the main output fader coz it was not at 0db...

im going to check my levels and see what iv done wrong.
Thanks for your help guys!
