I wouldn't consider any of the indoor events(besides NYE, that was awesome) I have gone to in Asheville to be actual parties. More like half assed, zero budget, locals only, just cuz we can events. If you include those in the count, you may as well keep track of how many people show up at house parties. AFAICT Asheville will have 3 real shows this year. Equinox, NYE, and World Bridge. Although, maybe someone new to the area will get bored and pitch in...

My first party/rave was the Utta Chaos party with India Drop in 99' in Asheville and it changed my life. The Asheville scene in the early 2000's was really powerful too, some memorable nights!
You dont really need much $ for a psy party, especially with so much great local talent.

but....these days it seems to have taking onto this whole crunkadelic vibe.

the SouthEast in general has definitely flourished, and has a lot of potential to grow.

It was sad to see so many other festivals on the east coast not happen this year.

Speaking from my experience with the Texas psy scene... it seems to ebb and flow. The biggest psy party I've been to here happened back in 2000 and had a count of about 1,000... I think. I haven't seen one like that since.

I don't think it's really about those numbers, though. I feel like we've got a quality psy community here with some great talent throughout the state. The gatherings here presently have a pretty intimate and friendly feel. The crews do a good job of bringing together the local talent along with a diverse representation of artists from outside the state and sometimes out of country. There's also a fairly good mix of attendees from across and outside of the state. There's also some good psy representation booked with non-psy crews on an increasingly regular basis.

Of course, I'd love to see a psy dancefloor here 200 or more strong and I'd love for it to maintain the spirit we have now at the same time. I guess that's the real trick.

Yep, that's what I'm seeing.

Gemini this year is going to be 400 vs 500+
the past year or so and the feeling I got about
the 400 at Gemini this year is that it's going
to be an intimate party. Nice size!

Not sure they'll ever get as big as they were
but that doesn't really matter since I would say
it's more about the quality than the quantity.

Psy !           ***

That's no sky in the pie!
It's psy in my eye!
