The question is if psytrance is bigger in USA then before,in terms of bigger i mean more people listening to it,more people involved at all in psytrance in all sorts of ways, more parties, more people at parties, more artist, more activities at all regarding psytrance.
What do you think? |

I just got into it. So, yes, in the last 4-5 months it increased by at least one person - on the consumer side. Hopefully, soon enough it will increase by 1 on the producer side as well |

It depends what you mean by "bigger" and "psy scene." I think we're on the cusp of where psytrance is going to pour out of the traditional "psy scene" and into the raves, clubs, and other EDM parties. I think it's only a matter of time before we see Psytrance headliners (mostly progressive and full-on influenced) playing at large scale parties of other types. So I think the music is going to get huge here, considering how big the EDM scene is becoming here.
Only a couple years ago, I didn't hear any electronica on the radio. Now you can turn on LA pop stations and you will hear house and electro being played day and night. So I think that the US is catching up big time right now. They're just "baby stepping" their way right now with house, and more "dance" inspired stuff. The massive rave scene in LA is already attracting 80,000+ people to some events. So the potential listeners of this music are there. I've been seeing a lot of growing interest on the underground rave and club scenes for awhile now, and it's really starting to spike. With EDM it seems like there is a "trickle up effect" where trends of music move upward from the underground into the bigger scenes.
Anyway, I think we'll see people such as Astrix or Neelix headlining big events in the coming years, bigger than anything (in terms of number) that the psy scene has turned out here in the states.
Of course the "psy scene" will live on as a "psy underground" scene. This scene, all of us, all the local oldschool organizers will all remain. I think there will be more of a trend (as there already is elsewhere and here to an extent) of darker, harder, more "psy" sounding music in the underground, with more "mainstream friendly" progressive and full-on sounds in the bigger more above ground parties (which will probably mix with more genres including Techno, Electro, and even mainstream Prog Trance). But in the end, I think you will still see a lot of overlap. And of course the multi-day big festivals with the "day/night formula" will live on.
Also, these "middle point" types of parties could serve as a bridge to move people over to the more "psytrance party" style. What I mean is that culturally the US (as the rest of the world) is conditioned to party a certain way. In the United States, a good chunk of people do not like heading outdoors to camp or whatever. Meanwhile in places such as Brazil, it is no problem to get people out to a party like this. I think if the psytrance music is brought more into the larger EDM scene, it will spark newfound interest in the original "psy formula" outdoor parties. Just as you hear techno or house in just about any party you can name right now (including psy parties, clubs, raves, you name it), I think that the psytrance music has a power to transcend scenes and to perhaps influence other scenes culturally as well. In the end, you'll have all sorts of different types of parties with psytrance. You'll still have the outdoor undergrounds, the warehouse parties, but you will also have clubs, massives, and other big parties playing this music.

Its probably a regional thing...In the northeast here it seems dubstep is in command as far as electronic music goes.
The hippy types I know pretty much hate electronic music. They are into bonnaroo type bands.

Dubstep is pretty much the dominant genre anywhere in the US right now, not counting Chicago style booty house which is still pervasive in the main stream clubs, as it has always been.
I think in terms of new scenes, and exposure to new people Psy trance in the US is generally expanding.
However, i think in the older established scenes (NY, SF, LA) its heyday has come and gone.
Not to say its not still able to be found or prevalent but in those places its a case of fewer promoters doing stuff, with in many cases smaller turnouts than they once had.
However, there is much more blending of psy with the rave scene these days, and hearing it at more multi-genre events.
In MN, its not uncommon to see a psy stage at a huge multi-stage indoor rave.
In SF, the general rave community (much to the chagrin of some) has embraced psy as the new "it genre", which while boosting numbers.... has changed the overall dynamic of events.
LA is still quite active, but gone it seems are the days of the 1000+ people 24 hour blowout events by Psytribe and Greensector.
Everything runs in cycles, so its kinda only natural, that the places to get the psy bug first would feel it decline eventually, while those to that got it later, would still be picking up steam and energy.

Goth/Industrial was quite popular in Detroit back when ('85-'95). Goth fans usually detested house but did not mind ocasional techno tunes (go figure...). I haven't been there in a long while, but wouldn't you think this Goth scene would naturally accept psy trance?
It's true about Chicago - or at least it was true at the turn of the millenium. There was this nauseating Ricky Martin meets Cher stuff in straight clubs and a mix of house and 80s new wave in Boystown.
But surely there is florishing psy activity in Madison, isn't it??? You can start hallucinating there just by listening to conversations on the street |

Some people have been doing a small monthly in madison for the past few months. Minny has been having some all psy parties on occasion over the past year and a half- as well as having a psy stage or some psy played at raves.

1999 asheville would get 400-500 people. Now we get about 100 for indoor, but the out side festivals here have grow some. Around the same time in NYC when synthetic sadus was around their shows reached 3000 people I know the shows aren't not that big now. And San Fran are they as big as the folsum st days? So I would have to say the parties are not bigger, maybe smaller and more spread out.

It doesn't seem to be growing all that much. But there are a greater number of people taking deeper involvement in the music/scene somehow, whether it be through organizing events, making music, etc. This is a good thing.
