I started when i was 6 so therefore I am or will become better than all of you...
C'mon this makes no sense. Of course you don't get better just because you start young. Yes it 'can be' beneficial but there are just so many factors that determin weather you become "good" og not. Do you get more talent the younger you start? |

neurolgicaly speaking you GET better if you start young.
The neural connection in the brain keep being deleted or set in a much higher ratio up to 18, then after that.
Acutaly, there are neurological connections in the brain which will just disapear if they are not used. some things can never be learned, if they are not learned before a certain age. For instance accent free speaking of a foreign language or 3dimensional imagination.
Brain Structures often used in younger age will make feel things done before 18 much more natural.
for example.
I learned to identify frequencies after I was 20. it's possible sure. but if my brain had learned that earlier the neurolgical structures of my brain would have been much more flexible and my brain had had much more chance to specialice on identifying frequencies. What ever I do. After the same amount of time I'would never get as good as a clone of me who had started identifying frequencies with 13. (comparing me with 27 to the clone at 20  )
Thats why a child should be confronted with many different inputs. this keeps and sets neurological structures when they are still able to do that.
Actualy I child is being born with all possible connections, and those not used simply die out.

Its actually much younger than that. I believe a 1 year old actually has twice the neural connections of a 4 year old. As you mentioned, "use em or lose em".
I'm pretty sure this is the basis for why contraputnal classical music can increase IQ if played to newborns. Your simply saving some connections that would have otherwise been cut forever. |
