i know we go here by the way of do what sounds good..but there are basic production techniques that i think everyone follows.I just figured out what sidechaining is and how to use it.
2 questions?
Does everyone do it in psytrance?
2.In slower bpm's the sidechaning effect works a little better than in higher bpm's?Any thoughts?

I find sidechaining to be imperative to maintaining a nice production. Without it things would be very messy

i know sidechain is like glueing two channels into one mixer channel and use it to make the sound tighter, (if this is wrong please correct me)
but i can't seem to get in my head a way to use it and why i should

+1. I also love the actual sound when done right, but always in moderation.

That is buss compression (provided you have a compressor inserted into that channel).
Sidechaining is when you set a compressor to "listen" to an incoming trigger (kick) and at every trigger, drop the gain of the channel according to the parameters set in the sidechain compressor.
Peace out.

Regarding the first question "does everyone do it in psytrance?"
I don't really know whether every psy producer does or not...but I find that it gives the bass an extra element of bounce...so it is definitely giving the bass a bit more "gallop"...
Definitely helpful. |

I guess it also depends on what type of music you are doing, if you are making 170bpm KBBBKBBB I guess you can go without it. It will sound like shit anyway. Oh no he did it again.
However if you are serious about music production I believe it is very important to master all aspects of fitting elements to work nicely together, one of which methods is sidechaining.
Bus compressor is optional, I rarely use it unless I have several channels with similar sounds that needs a common denominator which will often include a sidechain compresser aswell to tight things up.
cheers,
A

it's not a must, but it really depends on your bass and kick pattern plus the length of your kick/bass notes. if bass and kick would overlap at some point sidechaining is recommended.
i use it rarely, but then again i'm no fan of kbbb. |
