without offending anyone, do you think psytrance music is recycled both conceptly and artisticly?
naturally, as a relatively small and specific genre of music it answers to some form of pattern which is probabley part of the originall idea ("trance"...), but wasnt also difference, refreshing, renewing and above all a real alternative way of thinking.
Is psytrance today answer to its wonderfull originall cheracteristics?

i don't think there has been an 'original' musical form in the last 200 years, speaking conservatively. Instead, I like the idea music is in some form, 'inspired' by other influences. The sole concept of creativity, for me, is using different ideas, and aplying them elsewhere for a new result. Every single genre you can think of in music, besides classical probably, has branches that extend to other genres.
I'm not undertstanding what you mean by trance though. Repetition, like a set of drums without much variation, could in itself be conduits for a trance inducing experience. I don't think there's any major undertaking there. At this stage i think it would be more interesting to see the adaptation of mind altering brainwave syncronization methods, like Binaural beats in the genre. It might already be in use and i just haven't heard...
if what i'm understanding from your post is that psy trance somehow seems recycled now or something, is just a matter of looking at other types of music to see if the difference they have between one artist to the other are that great, to make that claim. I still think it's pretty damn original if you ask me. I don't hear a whole lot music out there, though, so it might as well sound very much recycled.
I think psy trance, or at least what i like to hear, carries the idea of a refreshing, different, alternative ways of thinking... but that is probably individual.

great link NextWorld! wiki delivers as usuall...
The scene IS getting bigger but thats not necesirly mean something. The "community" is definatly great and important but also changes along with the music (and im not saying its bad or good - its just a fact)

...returns to the source...
...slowly step by step the spirit will be back again...
more new elements is added and the cycle keeps its evolutionary path more opened to 3dimensional psychedelic views...
psychedelic trance is an experiment wich still goes on and on and on more up and up and up higher...

i think it goes right through the door, takes an elevator to the basement, climbs the staircase cursing cause it's so stoned and forgot to get out on the 1st floor,
takes a cab to the airport, realizes it forgot it's pass port back home, curses some more, smokes a joint and relaxes on the airport's lawn bored but quite happily

I think lots of production nowadays emphasise too much on 'bassline' and 'kick' as main theme. Everything else is put on top which follows that heavy kick-bassline theme, and musical creativity can only be narrowed down. Basically tracks are made conceptionally for the dance floor and less of artistic expressions.
Seeing as that our scene is based on music and the strange thoughts and emotions we get out from this music, the production nowadays reflects our scene at the moment, which is 'yeah~~ lets go and party hard~~ yeah~~' kind of attitude.
Im sure there is room for improvement. i want something that lets me experience 'trance mindset' without drugs, and all spectrum of emotion. |

oh i keep up with the trend altough i have a specfic taste i'm going through roughly 5 to 8 cd's per month. From essential chillout to minimal progressive, to the darker/twisted stuff, to dub, to IDM and sometimes interesting jazz. It's not much, but i'm not a die hard collector. I don't listen to goa much these days either, i can appreciate it but i don't think there's been anything new there in the last... 6-7 years? In the meantime i keep finding very 'repeatative, maditative state of mind music' but like i said, you don't need much except a drum for that
