never too many "skilled" dj`s .. I thought about this saying (that all goafreaks are djs/artists/whatever).. But I think its good, we are just creative people who like to spread good vibes and music...
And sure, beatmixing is a skill you need for dj`ing. But still, some different mixing is the best for me..

Any transition from one track to another is mixing in its own way. Whether there is beatmatch or not is a different issue. So yes mixing is important but track selection & story matters more |

I think mixing is one of the greatest things to ever happen to music. I also love how mixcentric PsyTrance is...How tracks that can be enjoyed immensely by themselves can be used as building blocks in creating an hour/two hour mega track.
It's like being able to condense a month of new music into the a couple of hours of the best parts.
While we're at it, anyone intereted in sharing some mixing tricks that work especially well with Psy?
Some little tricks I like doing is beating getting two tracks beat matched about 8 bars before the track playing live goes into a ambient break, at which point flicking in the bass of the cued track for about a beat a time before throwing it in for a full bar just before the other track kicks back in.
Another cool thing is mixing in the uplifter of another track during a hectic part of the live track.
One track in particular that I dig for this is Khopat Vs Technodrome's Take Control. There's a nice, long uplifter in the beginning that plays by itself and using the Cue function on Pioneer CDJs, you can sample it whenever you want.
Anything other interesting things that can be done with CDJs and a standard mixer, other than generic bass swaps?

This whole "no rules" thing became sanctuary for the clueless.
If you consider your self to be a proper DJ and you are playing a party where people simply wanna get a groove on and dance their tits off, spare the crowd with the primadonna bollocks of what you think "could be a psychedelic trip" and keep them to your self.
You are at a party...mix them fucking tunes together and keep the energy going.
If you wanna stroke your chin till it bleeds with atmospheric intros and outros, stay home and smoke a phat one and let the people that go to parties, party.
Peace out. |

a well selected long break within a set playing an intro can turn out to be a bomb where people will long talk about.

if it sounds good and makes people dance....
if you can't beatmatch, don't try it in front of people. if all you can do is mix ambient intros and outros... then get really freekin good at it.
don't play in front of people until you think you actually have something new and interesting to offer.
there is no rule book, the dancers are the judges. some people's favorite dj is the same dj that i can't stand and i think doesn't mix well at all, its all in the eye of the beholder.
please play good tunes and make them sound good. oh ya, and lose the ego, thousands of people did this before you did

yes, beatmatching and mixing the two tracks for at least a minute, preferably a minute and a half or two, is really nice to see a psytrance dj do. Sadly, it is not exactly the norm. |

a beatmatch set is a lot fucking fun
you will only focus on getting the next
beatmatch done. And if you fuck it up with
double kicks at least you are trying to
beatmatch unlike Crossfade djs.
I prefer to listen to a dj that is trying
to beatmatch all tracks than one who only
crossfade
A crossfaded set for me is the most boring of all in the dj point of view cause you don't have much to do, you spend all
the time of the set doing what =?
nothing at all just crossfading the mixer. One word BORING

to add to that, do this and they will dance harder. Chicks dig it when you lean in and put your elbows out to switch the bass. How do you think I met my third wife? |
