NO rules on mixing, mixing can be as creative as much as producing!

It can be a real psychedelic trip!

the one who produces music is like the one who creates a story, but this story, is like a being, which starts to take individual life, just like a tale or a story, so there are dj´s around the world who get to know this story and begin to like it, and begin to play it, just as what happens with storytellers who pick up a story or a tale and start spreading it.....so there are the ones who create the story and the ones who tell the story...obviously the first ones to tell the story will be the ones who created it....

so both are important producers as well as dj´s..

Beat mixing is for the weak

seriously now, imo constant beat makes this
music sterile in a way , in some cases
if the beatless parts are not too long ,
or if they are interesting enough , it adds to the atmosphere allot .

wheter its the beginning end or middle of the track doesn't really matters as long as it sits good with what came before it and what will come after, when the beat will kick back in again .

rules does not apply good in this case ,
everyone mixing the same way ,tend to get
kind of boring .

If a dj is very good at mixing then its amazing what he can do in a party and keep the people dancing non stop for 2-3 hours in a row.Unfortunately there are very few good djs in a scene where everyone one way or another claims that he is a dj.

In the peak times of the party its not very wise to have intros and outros of the tracks because people loose their pace.

One of the very best (if not the best) djs i have ever witnessed on various occasions is Ari Alien Project who i consider to be one of the best mixers in the scene along with people like Dimitri Nakov and Shane Gobi.

Ari does some crazy stuff while mixing that i havent seen many (if any) people doing while on decks.

His music selection might be cheesy for many but his mixing skills are second to none.

since most of us prefer good music, clean productions and so on, why ruin all that with trainwrecks and bad mixing. beatmixing is a great way to keep the flow and to have a smooth journey thru the music

bad mixing is a huge turnoff imho. so is mixing really a good thing? well, not allways, but a good mix is a good thing for sure and it doesnt really have to be a beatmix aslong as it sounds good and have nice buildups

just my 2.5 cents...

You could compare mixing to cooking:

Add the individual ingredients one at a time mixing them together as required. Maybe bake & fry. Drink some beer and enjoy the fruits!

This whole "no rules" thing became sanctuary for the clueless.
If you consider your self to be a proper DJ and you are playing a party where people simply wanna get a groove on and dance their tits off, spare the crowd with the primadonna bollocks of what you think "could be a psychedelic trip" and keep them to your self.
You are at a party...mix them fucking tunes together and keep the energy going.
If you wanna stroke your chin till it bleeds with atmospheric intros and outros, stay home and smoke a phat one and let the people that go to parties, party.

Peace out.

People need to remember that we listen to this genre because it does not follow the mainstream rules and does not sound the same..

The beauty of this genre is where any style that sounds good and creates a psychedelic moment is equal to me..may that be beatmatching or using intros and outros to create a story..

Stop being haters first and only then goto psy parties..there is no more need for negative energy there

and saying Peace out at the end doesnt mean you are absolved of saying trash to people..

"Words matter" ..be careful what you say and how you say them to HUMAN BEINGS

+1 . Yes, it is important to mix properly technically speaking. Trainwrecking is definitely no good and kills all energy. I would definitely prefer a clean mix anyday.
But having said that, it is upto one to create their own style of mix be with or without beatmatching as long as it sounds good. That is the beauty of thsi genre, and as famiable mentioned, we are in this coz we dont need mainstream rules. Amazing stories can be created even without beatmatching. And a long set with just beatmatching imo is very boring. Need to be creative ... and try different things...

But again, there are some basics to be followed.

The word "mainstream" is largely misunderstood around here. Beatmatching a simple basic skill that a DJ should posses IF s/he wants to call her/him self a DJ.
You don't have to choose one extreme and say a party with constant beat is boring. There are breakdowns in most of the tunes so inherently, psy-trance sets, will have gaps for people to catch a breather.
And even if you did mix all the tunes together, you don't have to always mix out a track that is 64 bars before its finished to a track that is 64 bars in. A lot of intros have some sort of drums in the intro, before the main kick and bass come in.
I am not hating on anyone, all I am saying is that because of the whole "no rules" moto, there are an awful lot of people (especially in psy-trance) that are allowed to play parties and trainwreck the shit out of their tunes, or simply play too long and too many beatless parts when they play every intro and outro, messing the groove of the people who are there to dance.
No body is going to start hassling the DJ off the decks (in most cases anyway), but it does ruin the vibe at some points and that is bad, especially if you are tripping.

If there are SOME absolutely fantastic intros and outros, sure play SOME of them and give the people an extra breather, or when you wanna slightly change the mood of the set.

But learning to beatmix tunes seamlessly does not mean you are part of the mainstream. It just means you know what you are doing.

Peace out.
