cytopia, do consult your dealer.
as to what is faster - listen, mbp is a stronger machine.
Question is if this is the strength you NEED.
If not, ok it IS stronger, but you don't need it so strong
so you don't need the mbp.
consider your apps, your workflow, and see what is the status now: how much mem you have, what CPU.
the mb and mbp have dual cpus, so .. this is also acceleration.
and look at memory size and speed.
the mbp 15" has an aluminium case, this is an advantage for live acts, I think.
anyway, I wish you luck with a mac

In my experience Macs can crash just as easily as PC's. We use Macs a lot at work and I feel better with my PC at home. This said, I would love to get my hands onto a dual quad mac... I would also prefer a PC with that power. True, there is the virus issue with PC, however I think both Mac and PC can be used in the same ways and both have glitches and crash. It also has a lot to do with the program you use. Cubase seems to be not very stable. Logic is the most versatile program, but then I look at all the plugin updates especially for logic 7 pro and it does not seem to be that much better. I have found FL studio to be very stable.

Wow... what a good set of answers and arguments guys... thx alot. As for what imgoing to use THE Mac for: Music and Visual productions. Im using Cubase and Photoshop.
As for the virus comments, i am aware that viruses can be found for a mac, but i am not planning on using the mac to "Browse" online. I have a laptop which i use on the internet with active virusscanner. If i choose to buy the mac, should i use it on the internet? whats good antivirus on the mac... surely such a fast mac should have no probs running cubase along with antivirus?
Another way of saving money... at least in denmark is to start up a company. Then u can purchase the pc tax free providing that it has to do with ur company... i am going to do this. Once again thx for ur comments... if any of u guys or gals out there has any more info on octo-cores or have comments on performance and stability of cubase running on XP or os X tiger or leapord let us know. |

You can call your company: "TaxFreeMac"
as for antivirus for the mac
I don't know a good one - don't install the norton one
we have alot of macs here - I have never seen a virus on any of them. And they are online 24/7...
I'm sure there are some macs that get viruses - depends on where your surf...
Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

By the way..the Macbookpro now got a Firewire 800 connection even on the 15..
pretty nice with a suitable firewire800 Harddrive to improve Disk-streaming a lot..
