Is it normal?

My bass sounds louder in some notes than others.
In my song I am going down form A to E and E sounds like it has less bass in it. I tried eq, but if I am increasing the bass in E the bass in A increases as well. I tried multiband compressing, but I didn't get any results either. But I don't know how to use multiband compression proplerly so it may be the answer.
Usually the A, B and C sound louder. That happens with all bass synths, but I can't hear such a huge difference in commercial ones. Only a small one. Is it some thing normal, or is it something wrong with the room acoustics? If it's not due to the room acoustics, how can I fix this?

i'm going to speculate that it is because of your filter settings... but it can be anything else...

I tried this both with a bass I've made with Nord Lead and the vb-1 and tau MK2 and all do the same.

it can be room acoustics problem...the wavelenghts for A B C notes are 1250/n, 1110/n, 1050/n cm. so if your rooms measurments are exact multiples of these lenghts it will resonate at these frequencies.

That's what I think it is, because when I am playing A, I can hear a light that I have in my room that has a crack in it go tzzzzzzz.

hey if youre serious about room acoustics improvement look at this page. i was once amazed how my monitors sounded when i brought them to a professional acoustically threated studio room, hey sounded absolutely different and much better. the Studiofoam Sonomatt looks like the best investment, much of it and not so expensive. http://www.djmart.com/socoandac.html

It some resonance somewhere. It obviously seems to be the same wheather you use different filter settings, so it's not that your resonance on the synth is making some note louder.

To treat a room with bass problems is not always easy though. Most acoutsic treatment stuff to stick on the wall deals mainly with mids and treble.
The most common problem I have seen in small home studios is when the walls themself are not stiff really.
Any swaying of the walls can cancel out the bass at certain frequencies.

If your walls are solid and stiff, then it can help to put a thick curtain at a 1/4 of the wavelength of the loud or resonant frequency. Also bass traps is one solution.
It is a very difficult subject though, and many treatments do more harm than good if not done very precisly.

I have very thin walls and behind the walls left and right are two storage spaces that combined together are about 1/4 of the size of the room. . I think these storage spaces make the problem.

There will be a places in the room where the bass is much louder than in other places; most likely near walls or in corners.

If you take a small cupboard (like a bedside cabinet) or a small shelf unit, and fill it with old pillows and cover it with some nice-looking fabric, and put it in these places it will help reduce the bass in the room.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Look at the bass in a wave editor. Do you see any change, except the frequency? Maybe different amplitudes or anything?

if i had enough €€€€ i would invest in some carpets to hang on the wall... nice looking and i'm almost sure it would absort freq reflection... wont it? %)

Like I said, carpets on the wall won't do much about bass problems.

First of all make the walls stiffer, or maybe in this case remove cuboards to change the shape of the room.
If that don't help, the thick curtain method as decribed above or bass traps if you have much $$$.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

the way i deal with it is to walk around in the room and also in the hallway next to it. This gives me an idea of the sound.
i also listen to my mix as many places as possible (friends, cars, discman, pa....) as this gives me an overall impression of the sound.

If i was to release something i would leave the mix to someone else because i get too involved in the song, or leave it for a couple of months and then go back to mix it with fresh ears.

A great trick to avoid influence from your room is to keep the volume low and use nearfield monitors, this way you dont hear much of the reflecting sound from the room but mostly direct sound from the monitors.

bom           you know the sound of water hitting a surface .. what is the sound of water?

= bass traps, should have said before. Cheap and effective.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
