... or are basslines often over-compressed
what maks them sound "too late"?
this doesnt happen on the first compilation
of just any underground label,
also the more established ones give me this feeling ..
there's plenty of tracks out there today that sound like
if the bassline comes up too late, every bar.
maybe it's my hearing but in this case it does sound
like the bass is set off too much milliseconds
(maybe just a few can funk it up but too much just f**s it up) ..
therefore, these tracks miss out on assshaking acitivity.
am i the only one to hear this?
if not, could this be a problem with compression?
or is it like this on my 'living room' gear
and not on huge soundsytems at parties?
q:rius if there's anyone out there
with the same hearing problems :o)

hey man,
i know axactly what you mean!
a few times before i heard it this way listenning to a track in one room, and
after listenning to it in another room it
was ok (so it was because of the freq response and acoustics of the room...)
but a few times i had the same fealing with
some tracks even on headphones...
another thing i realized about some psytrance basses, is that not like basses in alot of other styles, the pitch of the bass
attendes to change slightly whyle your moving around,(in a room and in an open field), probaby because of standing waves nodes and anti nodes etc...but the interesting part is that it happens much more clearly with some psytrance basses, then any other bass in any style i heard up till now. |

that's because psytrance basses are so tight and clear (that's basically what u try to achieve in psytrance, clarity) that you can hear it if something is wrong, and it certainly are standing basses you are talking about...
The timing issues you are talking about are indeed a result of overcompression, known as 'pumping', but almost all psytrance basses pump a little, you just have to make sure it doesn't become too bad... If you want to avoid pumping, all you have to do is turn up the attack time of your compressor so it let's the initial transient thru, then it will be on time and very tight, while u still compress the tail. |

most artist finshed their tracks with the Bass vst is open.
the problem is when you export your mixdown you got a light change in the timing.
solution: export your bass to audio channel, edit the audio to sit perfectly.

thanxx guys *good to know my ears are still okay
.. so it's probably latency related
or too low attack on the compression ..
but why dont THEY hear it?
i know, the eternal 'why' but people get their music
often mastered by professional engineers
and that's what surprises me ..
they dont hear this?
