do you guys also feel that ambient is more timeless than trance/uptempo stuff?
It seems to me that I can listen to older ambient stuff, both that I have and that others show me, and I quite like it, while I tend to think trance gets older faster...
I mean, dont get me wrong, I love the ´tum tum tum´, specially progressive =) but I feel that I can listen to an ambient album for many more times than with a prog album..
so you guys think Im talking crap, or anybody agrees? |

You're talking crap Rafael, but don't worry that's what a forum is all about
Of course is timeless!!!
Simple experiment:Stick in your deck an overplayed copy-paste&effective killah track from the last year....how long can you wait untill you press the "STOP" button...not that much, huh???
Do the same with an overplayed chill tune..."hey no problem...I think I'm up for this song(not track, not tune,SONG)"

Sorry. but i disagree with u.
There are some Trance albums that will remain as
classical for ever.
for me, anyway...

Trance is getting alittle boring lately.
Ambient/Chill-Out is just getting better and better.
I sense that 2005 is going to be a good year.
Alot of surprises on the way.

I think its important to remember that trance is primarily *dance* music and written for that purpose - so it is going to be relatively disposable - how often do you ever hear any tunes older than 6-12 months ever played out? (though i do love it when someone plays out an old Doof or MWNN tune... but anyway..)
Whereas chillout stuff is designed for listening to (or maybe swaying a bit to ) and so will generally stand the test of time a little better... |

even chill/downtempo tend to repeat itself sometimes. Just look at the releases with Indian inspired music and all the ethnic stuff. Took a bit overhand at one point and still do - not that it's bad. Different genres of music get inspired from likeminded and tend to copy "borrow" from eachother... even in chill/downtempo |

i agree....
sometimes when buying trance cds i feel like im throwing my money away, cause i know that if i dont play the tracks in the following months they'll be outdated. That doesn't usually happen with chill music.
anyway... there are some trance labels still producing excellent, timeless music.
