sounds good to me
but look, im running my software/gear of a friggin 350 mhz machine with 128 gigs of memory and 2 hard disks with about 2 gigs storage on each (but with about 20 megs free on either, if im lucky)
im not sure about using xp as your operating system though, 2000 always ahd conflicts for me with a lot of software and rivers, i dunno about xp
just beware... |

1024 sdram? what for? beyond 512 it makes no difference whatsoever.
the pIII 1000 is great (that's what i have).
I'd suggest u buy two Harddrives, one with 40 mes, and another with 20-30 megs. that way you have much more storage room for cubase files etc., and if you can get a retractable HDD, all the better.
as for the OS, well, XP isn't such a great OS for music. use either 98 SE or ME.

amd has better raw processing power than intel chips. However for every 1 intel chip that goes down, three amd go with that!!
your choice!! |

I guess upgrading from 800 to 1000 is no difference at all.
upgrade to something like 1.6 - then u'll feel the difference -
and no need for so much ram - 512 really is enough.
Asus mobo is great, though I prefer AMD - they are much cheaper and performin audio better - with my ASUS mobo
40GB 7200 is mostly a standard now.

just one more thing, you might have a hard time tracking down a new PIII processor cause intel dont make them anymore.

If you're getting AMD, which I personally recommend, my music computer is running an AMD processor, be sure to get a proper cooling system for it.
AMD cpu's can get burn in seconds if not cooled down properly.
