well.. there it goes..

u can have same spectrum analize , and yet one sound is more beautiful (in the eye of beholder) then the other.

*true or false ?
*would you rather sound that fit your spectrum anal rather then your ear ?

analyzers aren't always perfect and ears aren'y always perfect... monitors either.

i say go for a balance

bout analyzers:
anyone can tell me why i cut under ,let's say, 50hz my kick with many eq's one after another and still inspector shows me a graphical peak going down till the bottom (=10hz) ???

any other analyzer to suggest??

thx

u cut with diffrent filters.

12db 24db 36db or 48db

u can use Q10 which alow you to have as much 12db filters.. have several in diffrent points , i found get much more natural sound then use req6 with one straight 36db filter.

so , u actualy rather to change something that sounds good becuase of analisis ????

how do you choose beween 2 snares that have same req range ? by ear i hope .. ??          www.sattelbattle.com

im in the trust ur ears side but use analyzers to check for freq overlapping !

@zafer... why u cut ur kick in 50hz? thats hardly any kick punch left!

i never cut kicks only bass exept if the kick has allot of energy bellow 30hz

Don´t know if I´m talking shit... But that´s what comes to me:

I guess all real time analizers uses the famous FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) to read audio signals. And if I´m not mistaken, FFT is an aprox. of another "transform", the Fourier Transform. I remember from school days that FFT is way easier to implement for real time purpouses.

For example: FFT uses a pre-determined lenght of audio to analyze. With too fast sample, maybe FFT will not determine the low frequncies...

But I know there´re ppl here to explain better!

I tried some analizers... I can say 2 as my prefered options:

1)Waves PAZ Analizer: looks good and trustable. Simple. It says it uses a method "similar by the ear"... They say PAZ shows what u hear...

2)Nugen Audio Visualizer: very complete analizer. BUt here I fell the imprecision of the FFT... U need to "tweak" some options, to get a trustable visual result. FOr example, sometimes u will see a kick loop changing the spectrum... BUt maybe that´s why I tend to trust this plugin.           LOADING...

I think the more senses you can get involved in your production decisions the better. Ultimately though the ears must be the deciding factor.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

SMS: You are right about the FFT bucket sizes but it also has to do with the fact that filters just roll off frequencies below (or above) a certain point. They don't cut absolutely!

I'm not a big fan of PAZ. I much prefer Voxengo SPAN (which btw is a free download from the Voxengo site).

anal or through the ear - as long as I'm happy with the results!           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...
