The review:

I browsed around on the review section to find this one but I couldn't detect any reviews. So I'm off to write my own Maybe a bit late, but I only got it recently as a birthday present from my brother. Anyway, Plusquam has been known to release some good proggy compilations, most fresh is the last one: Kodama from around February 2006. This one still dates from late 2005, but it's a solid compilation full of the fat psyprog sound Plusquam mostly has on their compilations. Ok, let's go through it track by track.

Track 1: Starts off with typical Limelight sounds, and has a pretty heavy bassdrum. Some voice sampling in it as well. Stays much the same throughout the song with its simple melodyline. Sounds pretty tight though, and it's a fair opener.

Track 2: Has some more breaks than the previous track, but in sound Ski-Fi is a lot alike. More emphasis on the pads though. Nice track and it's a little more diverse than track 1. Love the bassline by the way, it has that kind of jumpy festival feel.

Track 3: Sounds a lot like track 1 again, but this one is more up front and has a greater emphasis on the hi-hats. It's called Electro but that's because there's a sample in it which says: Electro compulsive therapy, and not because it has electro influences, which is so trendy in progressive trance nowadays. Anyway, pretty standard fare, much in the same style as tracks 1 & 2. Good groove, pretty solid but nothing world shattering. Lots of echo-usage too, pretty common in this sort of style. Good.

Track 4: One of the longer tracks on here. Earsugar is a new project by Liquid Soul and DJ Marin Knecht from Labyrinth. Leaning a bit more towards regular progressive than for example the Liquid Soul project, this sounds pretty tight. Starts off slow, samples of a woman wanting you to touch her (yeah this is progressive alright ) Some moans follow and then it's off into kinda Liquid Soul territory with those long sweeping sounds. The song pretty much stays that way once it gets started and it's a good groove throughout. Tight track.

Track 5: Gaudium time and if you've heard their album you know what to expect. Quite a long track for them too, since they mostly don't dwell beyond the 7/8 minutes fare. Good track anyway, typical Gaudium style. Takes longer to get started than most Gaudium songs, but that probably has to do with the length. Sounds really tight beat/bass wise and has good sample manipulations as well. Nice track to fill up a set and keep the crowd where you want 'em. On the dancefloor. Nice track overall.

Track 6: Ryan Halifax has produced quite some tracks in 2005, a highlight for me being Beauty and The Beat for example, which was featured on the Wireless compilation, also by Plusquam. His music has two sides, great or not so great, there's not really a sideway with this guy. This track is on the good side though, so no worries there Takes a long time to get going and builds up towards a playful finale where a soft padsound and some acidic kinda leads finish off a great track. Good percussion work by the way. Can be a stormer on the floor when timed right. (and otherwise it acts quite nice as a filler towards another monster track in your set, if you're playing more on the melodic side of things instead of the deeper side ) One of my faves here.

Track 7: Human Traffic then. Also a new project, this time composed of DJ Mapusa Mapusa (of Auricular fame) and Stephan (of Symphonix fame). Well, you know what to expect here if you've heard Symphonix, because that's what this sounds kinda like, but not as fat. This is more flat sounding, but has that same kinda symphonix feel. Nice track, it's not a standout here, but a good listen nonetheless. I like the atmosphere.

Track 8: This track, the longest on here, has some strange vocals in it. According to the promotalk: "Variable vs. Anorien is a side project of V-Tunes.. The vocal will stuck to your head.. even if you don't like it..." Hmm, well the overall atmosphere is more housey than V-Tunes, that's for sure. As for the vocal that creeps in at around 3:48, I can't really understand what it says exactly, but I make out something about a spaceship and sky?? (Kudos to the one who clears it up) It's one of those things that remains in your head long after you've heard it, or creeps up on you when you're just doing daily business. I don't think it's irritating at all, I've heard far worse over the years Nice track, has a kind of melancholic feel over it. Nice work from the V-Tunes crew, there is a lot that can be done with this kind of sound, so maybe there's more to come?

Conclusion: Ok, to sum it up in one word: Solid!!
In some more words: A good compilation if you want some more proggy psytrance to fill up your Cd-ranks. I enjoyed it very much and think it's the best in the Irresistible Meltdown series so far. With no bad tracks, you can't go wrong with this. Get it, it's still available at most online shops. It's a good example of solid progressive psytrance and that's my final word.

No reactions? Am I the only one that thinks this is good?           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Well ,as in all Plusquam compis u can always find a few gems, but i think in general ,this is one of the weeker releases from the label so thats why no reviews and generaly a short life span to this collection.

Nevertheless there are some nice ones in here, such as the Halifax tune and the Gaudium track, which imho is one of their best,i still play it @ night time sets

I think it's been hiding a bit and i can agree that as a compilation the order/editing of the comp isn't that great but imho it's got some really good tracks.
for sure one of my favs from plusquam to date.
