OK folks - I am looking for reviews of your ipad experience *specifically relating to music*

I'm on the fence about it. I already have an APC40 for triggering and whatnot within Ableton, but figure that a touch screen interface would offer an altogether different tactile approach to things....and regardless of my opinions about apples business practices...they have undeniably the best music apps compared to android, and their tablet costs less than the other not-nearly-as-well-developed options.

Love it? Which apps do you use? I'm particularly interested in AirPlay or whatever it is that allows you to use the iPad as an external touch monitor for your laptop. I saw video of someone controlling omnisphere on the ipad.

Also like that Korg has put out ipad only apps for the MS 20 and Electribe.

btw, below are liveblog updates for the ipad 2 details. Garage band for 4.99 with all the touch instruments sounds pretty cool.

PoM, are you saying that because you have experience using it???

Can't see how you could say that its 'useless' without actually having tried it...I've had a couple people tell me that its really opened up different workflows or creative options for them. Seen a lot of people call it a toy, but none of those people seemed to have actually played around with it. I understand Apple hate, I'm pretty against their business practices and whatnot...but you'd be foolish to say their products aren't high quality or they aren't leading the tech industry with their designs.

I like the idea of tactile synth interaction....and it seems for $499 + cost of apps you get a lot of variety. I'm actually thinking of getting it just for TouchAble / TouchOSC alone.

One of my biggest issues with my setup is an ability to manipulate send/return tracks in an intuitive way while also having lots of them...I haven't been able to realize something that works well for me with my APC40 alone...

plus touch screens are cool as hell. I love my android phone, and I can see touch interface being great for music but the music apps on android just suck ass compared to the iOS ones.....

i used the 1 but not much, yes it open different workflow that maybe will suit you but i would find it more usefull maybe for live stuff, for music production i don t like, i find it s a bit a gadjet.

also you might look on the net what are the flaw when used as controller, i m not sure the resolution is great and other stuff like this.

i wouldn t mind having one i like it but i m not sure i would use it much for music production, it would be more to replace my laptop for the portability .

Yeah I don't mind it not getting used so much in the studio, my APC doesn't get used an awful lot in that respect.

And I do realize it has shortcomings when being used as a controller...which is why I think the combo of ipad and APC would be great. rock solid controller with the APC, live touch weirdness with the ipad?            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Akai has a nice controller with a dock for Ipad or iPhone. I think the touchscreen is a very good way to interact with any GUI specially of vst´s.

But at that price I wont pick an iPad, there are some tblats by asus with i5 processors running windows 7, 4 gig of RAMand up to 128 gigabytes.

You can use it as a DSP for some sof synths if your DAW allow remote control and processing.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Well after Logic pro came out with rudimentary but immediately useful support for OSC i have been having great fun using the logic template of touch osc on my ipod. Even with my tiny little fingers that interface is too small and i now find myself just a tiny bit more interested in a larger work area. For anything serious it´s still a bit of a toy, but for multitouch interfacing (controller duty) i cannot see a better and more flexible contender. There is presently not anything available i know of that can provide that kind of remote control quite as seamlessly (touch osc and logic config was automatic for example) I find myself waiting for better osc implementation in logic and i will go on the hunt for a 2nd hand V1 (I saw one yesterday for 200 euro, they come down in price fast)           Mastering available here:
