On Space Cats album Beam me UP he has synthesized voices on trax 2 and 8(?) that go like IO-OOH to IA-AAH. Hallucinogen uses synthesized voices somewhere on the Lone Deranger. The question is - how do you make them?

Thanx if you know the answer

This effect is known as cutoff aka brightness aka low pass filter.
Enjoy :)

Actually, I managed to copy this Effect and putting it into one of my Reaktor Ensembles.

it's not so hard:

what you have is either 2 sounds with 1 filter, or one sound with two filters.

you must control both filters' cutoff at the same time - when one cutoff is rising, the other must go down - and with the right Resonance and right synchronization, the synth starts actually talking a,i,o,u,e sounds.

Experimenting with many waveforms and different kinds of filters (not just lowpass) bringing out new sounds.

btw, in the new fruityloops - they had this Buzz generator edition which gives this effect but using Granular synthesis I think. welp...

Reaktor is cool after all :)

IO-OOH Effect is true a masterpiece , its what I thought reminds something like a singing computer, in Fruityloops 3.3 (Yes you Cubase / Logic GEEKS - its F-R-U-I-T-Y-L-O-O-P-S you can actually insert the Buzz Generator Adaptor (not the effect, the insturment) load a Buzz Instrument called "RectalAnarchy" and play with the "Vowel" thingy... see? nice ha?
Now, load some effects on that Adapter, do some live automation, and voile!'

NOW, What was that first name of that Posford dude?

the "talking computer" is easily done by any able modular synthesizer. (VAZ modular, Reaktor, Nord Modular, Pulsar's Modular... Moog of course :) etc.)
you only need to know what you want to say.
when we talk we create waves with the vocal strings, and from there you need to properly modulate the cutoff and amplitude.
amplitude can be modulated by recording the real speach, and using it as amplitude modulator, and the freuency .... that can be done by many things ...
so you don't have to use "buzz" - its machines often are buggy, and you can't know were the trouble awaits.
simply use any synth, whih has a possibility of controlling amp and filters with another audio.
good luck..
bom.

apropos "synth-voxes": Cosmosis - Dissociation

Cutoff - duh, what else
But Seriously, are there any quality vsti that you could use for this.

Anyway thanx, knew that it was som parallel filterthing but not how to do.

bilbo, ur talking about vocoding, which isnt what jeremias meant, i dont think,.... actually at first i thought he was just talking about gating some choir parts or something, like on the first track of shapes of sounds (or whatever the albums called)
well, vocoding or using a talkbox.. same diffrence really

Buzz machines integrated in Fruityloops are NOT buggy if you know how to use them.
and besides, why bother parellel filtering? when somebody has already taken care of that for us?

I know how yo use them - and even if I don't - They are buggy as hell and they shouldn't be...
more over they lack some purity in sound - too digital , noisy, and torn sound...

sorry but this is BUZZ - fruity just wanted to test if they can add such things to their prog ...

The point is, I want to know how to do it myself without any "heat-and-eat" programs, so that buzz stuff is excluded (no offense optimystique). Monsier Khripkov - Should you use bandpass or lowpass?

You can try using different types of filters - this way the sound is different.

star with Low Pass though. 2 LP filters...

in reason u have many modulation options
to control parameters like cutoff ,resonance with amplitude:)
