A typical use is for micing up the snare drum where you have a top snare mic and a bottom snare mic. The bottom snare mic needs to be phase reversed since it is picking the out of phase oscillating pattern of the bottom membrane.

A-Series Eq by URS has that.
Try it. it can make the sound fit better in the mix.
its more to do with colliding frequencies than anything

a famous trick is to mix the original signal and the phase inverted signal such that cancellations occur and some desired sound _MIGHT_ be accessible "in the clear"
try it out with some tunes for example! |

if u invert the phase of a sound and u put it on the same sound, they negate each other, so in effect u have no sound anymore in some very specific cases this is usefull, if u want for example sound on the sides but not in the middle u can overdub the track and put the overdub in the middle and invert it's phase, thereby removing all sound in the middle for that track... These days u have tools for that, but 20-30 years ago inverting phase was a very important tool for producers. |
