Hey guys,

This is my first question here, so I'd like to introduce myself. My name is gu and I'd like to ask for some kind help on a ratherly different type of question.

I have tried looking it up on old topics, but I don't know if it's my lack of practice with the forum website or just bad luck, I didn't find any thread related on how to work on creativity. If there is a popular thread on the subject, I'm sorry.

I'd like to ask you guys how you guys plan how next step will be taken when you are working with e-music. I have tried a few website methods, but none of them seems to work for me.

So, how do you guys work on creativity and how you apply them to your tracks?

Cheers!

You work on creativity by working and building up enough of a familiarity with the tools you are using so that when you do get an idea you can transfer it from your brain to the synth

There are lots of catalysts for creativity, the trick is finding what works for you. Some people hit the bong, some people load in samples or clips from movies....watch a youtube video and try to execute the method...listen to your favorite music and try to imitate a phrase (usually for me ends up with something completely different but cool anyways)...

find software or hardware that you really like using, and learn it really well - inside out and backwards

good luck! Ideas will come as long as you continue to advance your knowledge of production, music, and synthesis

+1 on getting familiar with your software/hardware

When you're starting out too, don't be afraid that if it doesn't sound great to start out. You can use presets, and learn how they work.

Listening to other artists and trying to figure out how they did certain things in their songs is something I do all the time, and I think everyone does.

You can look up how to make basic beats and bass, then start adding melodies on top of them. If you've made any other genres of music in the past, draw upon that to help you write as well.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

What I like to do is press 'rec' and just play and twist and turn. Even if it is just random stuff, if you record ten minutes of stuff there will always be phrases, hits, bleeps, zonks and bonks that you can use. These little bits of audio can then become a theme or 'hook' or phrase for a new track.

Other thing I like to do is take one drum loop and then just run it through different effects, filters, crushers and record all those different takes. Quickly you've got 10 new versions of the same drum loop out of which one might be 'the one' or u can use these different versions to morph between them and make interesting drum tracks esp. useful for glitch, techno etc..

Ask someone you know who plays an instrument you don't, and sample the shit out of their playing.

And last and not least, use Ableton Live. Since I switched from Cubase my inspiration and creativity went tenfold.

Make a template for your DAW that loads up everytime with things setup just the way you like it.

That way you dont have to waste time choosing sounds and routing things and what not, as soon as you open it it loads in a way that you can use straight away.
