It depends on who the person is that i will play the track for,i try to figure out which kind of psy that this person most likely would like depending of personal type and earlier taste in music.

Off course, if one is to introduce the whole concept psytrance it can be good to play all sorts of styles so that the listener can eat as many "dishes" as possible from the "buffet". But if it is about just one track then it depends on which kind of person it is.

But if it was a random i would for an example play this though.

when I was bothered with introducing people the best way was to shout them to a small gig.           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

i guess the trick would be to not scare them away with the bull dozer basslines , looney fx & heavy acidic synth riffs. the track must have some elements of the genre the one getting introduced already listens to likes so he can relate to the track in a better way. something with vocals wouldnt be a bad idea

You don't introduce someone to psybient by playing commercial chill-out right? So why beat around the bush with psytrance? They either like it or not. They wont be any more ready for some lame version of it.

Its different with chill because its easy to digest the first time you listen to it , it doest matter if you play Aes dana or ishq for the first timer because the chances are that he will end up liking it more often than not, if you get my drift. with psytrance its different , either he/she will love that goa gil track or he'll just vomit and run away. in order that the introduction is successful you will have to initiate them slowly but surely so that it 'grows' on them rather than scare them away. At least thats how it worked with my friends.           missing plug-in

I always use Shpongle!!!!

And it works wonders           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

For trance this never fails to get people interested

but yeah Shpongle is amazing for getting people into modern psychedelic music... my brother in law is 17 years old, and he was excited to see me move in my cd's & dj gear.

He's started digging through my collection of psy-dub, ambient and chillout and is loving it. Shpongle's latest albums has really blown him away, but now he is listening to the first 3 albums so am keen to hear his views on them.

He is not so much a fan of trance yet, finds it a bit to full on but I'll ease him into that hehe.           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

I didn't like most psytrance the first time I heard it

I didn't even really get into it at all until the first time I went to an outdoor festival.

I am more with Exotic on this one. A gentle introduction may be a better idea. When I first discovered psy trance and wanted to find out more, I went to a pirate blog and downloaded their 2009 top ten albums. After a few rounds of listening to them I ended up with no nigh full on - only morning full on because I liked it and "Subliminal Messages" because I found it interesting. I actually liked cheese like "Sounds like a melody", which nauseates me today. Why? Because it was somewhat similar to the Euro trance I constantly listened to on Van Buuren's radio program.

I have only 2 morning full on albums now: "Naturall Frequency" compilation and "Unstable" by Morfix. I didn't get sick of "Naturall Frequency" yet. And "Unstable" is a technical reference for sound quality (although I like some pieces too). Nowadays if I just pick something to listen to - it most likely won't be morning full on. It would be darkpsy, Suomi or something defying definitions - music I would probably not have listened to a few months ago. I think I will try to rediscover night full on too. My interests moved away from Van Buuren in a short period of time – because morning full on was a good transition stage.

So, let your friend open up to the psy music the easy way first - then later he/she may venture into something very different from his current music choices.

Completely agree... i mean from the age of 10-14 I hated any electronic music with a passion, then slowly got into drum n bass then commercial trance then goa n' psy... never listened to anny full on really though even though I have a few of the "top" albums/comps in my collection...

psybient ont he other hand was hard, i bought Shpongle first album on it's release day, hated it for like a year, then slowly found my way back into it via more commercial world fusion... even now i prefer Dakini Records or Interchill style over Shpongle style, I just find the real psybient gets a bit to um messy haha

sounds funny from a dark psy lover i guess...           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

Hi all, New to the forum...

I'll say I've had the best luck with converting friends with Classical Mushroom on the up tempo side of psy and either Celtic Cross or Shpongled on the chill front...

I think the best way is to take them to a good party with a nice line up and put some acid or etc in their drinks.

Direct to the point and they're gona like all the tracks
