What a great movie this is! Just saw it at the cinema, amazing...

Incredible (and true) story, great message.

I highly recommend this movie.           «They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.»

I would describe this movie best as shaking. Watch it last night, and I'm still shaken.

A strong portrait of humanity.

Anything else I'll write will be a spoiler. So I won't. I really recommend it, just beware that this is not a fun movie.           ---------------------------------------------

Every time I watch it, it gets to me in way I can't describe it.

Shahar said it. Anything you mention about this movie can be a spoiler.
Except for the amazing Soundtrack, by Eddie Vedder.

Oddly enough I saw it as well. Managed to watch it till the end anyway.
It was one of those movies that I cried towards the end. Like a man! And I am still shaken as well
The music is amazing as well           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

The soundtrack is indeed amazing, and besides Eddie Veder, who probably does the best job he did since Ten, good words also for ambient master Michael Brook.           ---------------------------------------------

I wasn't so impressed. As to the story itself, I've known some people in my life who have made similar statements but the paths they chose to take seem more productive than this boy's choice.
Also, what bugged me the most, though I think it's exciting to attempt what he did, he could have been a little smarter before attempting it.

Though I've known Eddie Vedder personally and he's a really sweet guy with a good heart, I don't care much for his music. Have to mute it.

Some of the visual's in the movie were really good though.

******* spoiler alert ********

I personally think that the point in this movie is not about going into the wild per se, or surviving in it, or is it a glorious search for truth or not, or the rest of the things which apparently made it a controversy.

This is a portrayal of an extremely sensitive person who looks for the answer inside and founds it in others, alas too late.

For me, this is a story about the eternal loneliness which will always be part of our lives as humans, the loneliness which comes from our inherent inability to completely break the barrier between ourselves and the other, between ourselves and the universe around us. A loneliness which is more present then ever in modern days lives. This loneliness is so evident in the real photo of Chris McCandless which he took himself before his death, and this photo, which appears in the end of the movie, was the strongest moment in the movie for me. Even now while looking at it and writing this, I feel his loneliness in a very physical sense, somewhere in my chest. I want to grab the guy and shake him and say: "Hey man, we're here! It's OK! You're not alone!!!"

Chris McCandless tried to avoid the other or others because he couldn't face the pain that comes from the unavoidable frictions with them, stemming from those barriers that exist between us. He ran away and looked for shelter in the wild. But in the wild he found out the truth about the other, that however difficult it is to live with it, it is impossible for us humans not to.

So I feel that this movie is saying to us that no matter how hard it is to live with the other, that even though we will never break that barrier completely, we must keep trying. I also think the movie gives us a tool to help us do that...

And I think it is an excellent movie that needs to be watched more then once.

Yes very nice Shahar and I get what you're saying. I think I understand why that perspective was lost on me: the actor just didn't convince me.
I saw a clip of the movie before seeing the entire thing and it was the scene with Vince Vaughn in the bar. What he said there and the way he said just turned me off and I could never regain any sense of connectedness or empathy with the character after that.

Maybe after sometime I'll go back to it with a clean slate... or not
