InterSys Interview with Mushroom Magazine

1-Who are you? Single person or project? Where did you come from? Where is your base yet? Year of birth? Tell us a bit about your background, your regular profession and your way up to here?

OMRI AZRAN (21) born 1985 & MOSHE MAMAN (24) born 1982 from Acco / Israel.

Background –

OMRI: in the early 90's I started DJing some tech trance music in all sorts of nature parties and then I founded my first project named "Chemical Planet" which was a Techno trance project. Than at 1998 I founded "InterSys" with Mark.
After a few releases in several compilations mark quitted the project and I asked Moshe to join the project.
MOSHE: I started at a classical education and played a jazz big band as a drummer. Then I played keyboards at a death metal band and 2 rock band. in the end of the 90's I founded "Scianid" , which is a breakbeat side project of mine and in 2003 opened "Red Studios" in which I produce all kinds of music for people.
At 2005 Omri called me and suggested to collaborate.
We are now working on the first "InterSys" album, anticipated to be released in early 2007 @ Psytropic Records, Germany.

2-Where do you come from? Where is your base? Tell us a bit about the scene at your home country? What is the special flavor in your land? Please give us an idea how scene life is like at home ...

We come from Acco / Israel. The REAL party scene in Israel (in our humble opinion) is still small and underground though the israeli trance is the biggest selling trance in the world.
Israeli trance, like the Israeli spirit , is Aggressive and yet melodic and musical. Works great on the dance floor.

3-Tell us about your new stuff and why people shouldn't miss it? Did you think it is something different, or would you think it should be named in a row with others? How would you define your style of music?

The new stuff is some real original and different music like you've never heard before. It takes inspirations from all sorts of genres and combines kick ass basslines and kicks with psychedelic melodies, vocals (by various singers) killer guitar riffs (by dudi) and violin (by zoar).
Our music is settled best during the morning hours of the party and it is a 100% dancefloor breaker.

4-Did you think copying kills music - or did file sharing makes the artist famous? What has been you experience with p2p and track-swapping?

We have our disagreement here:
Moshe - I believe trance music is alive and dynamic thanks to track-swapping and P2P. People get the chance to hear whatever they like and not only what record companies like and decide to promote.
Omri: I believe copying kills incomes of the artists and so makes the scene unprofitable... record company break down and it gets harder to make a living strictly from trance.

5-Where do you see yourself in 5/10/20 years? Where do you see our scene in the future?

Teaching our children how to create a killer bassline while we are on a plane to Japan to break some JAPANISAWA floor!!!

6-Your definition of luck & satisfaction? Maybe anything to tell about "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll"?

Satisfaction is creating a really good track and hearing it for the first time on a dancefloor at sunrise while people are getting crazy by it...
Luck is being healthy and keep doing best what we like to do.
We don't use drugs; we like to be clear when creating music. Alcohol is our drug of choice... a good whiskey is always welcome at our studio and parties.
Sex? as much as we can...
Rock'n'roll is the godfather of trance music, you should always know your roots.

7-Your favorite musicians? Some beside trance? Please name some artists that really take you higher ...

our favorite musicians in trance are - Space Cat, Pixel, DNA.

besides trance –

Omri: Tool, Massive Attack, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Therapy? ,Prodigy ,Younger Brother.
Moshe: Prodigy, Bastment Jaxx, Massive attack , Bjork, Dream Theater, J viewz , Violet Vision, Apex twin.

8-Where could our readers see/hear you in the next time? Any special events worth to mention here?

Bascally - all around the world performing. our next few gigs- Germany, Israel, Brazil and Japan.

9-Anything you would like to tell the world?

"IF YOU JUDGE PEOPLE, YOU HAVE NO TIME TO LOVE THEM..." (Mother Teresa)

10-Your website?

The website is under construction.

Who are you? Single person or project? Where did you come from? Where is your base yet? Year of birth? Tell us a bit about your background, your regular profession and your way up to here?

My name is Michael Schultz, I'm born in 1980 and I've been living in Copenhagen my whole life. My main profession is to make music as Genetic Spin however I've always had to work a normal job on the same time to make a steady income.

Where do you come from? Where is your base? Tell us a bit about the scene at your home country? What is the special flavour in your land? Please give us an idea how scene life is like at home ...

The parties in Denmark are mostly happening in Copenhagen however we do also have amazing parties in Jutland but not so frequently. In year 2000 as I started going to parties in Copenhagen the scene was minimal, at this time Iboga Records and Copenhagen based artists like Beat Bizarre, Phony Orphants and Reefer Decree were really taking form. Today the scene is both progressive and full on but mostly full on if you ask me. In Aarhus they also have a darkpsy scene unfortunately I haven't been to any of these parties yet though.

Tell us about your new stuff and why people shouldn't miss it? Did you think it is something different, or would you think it should be named in a row with others? How would you define your style of music?

My album is different compared to what I've released in the past. It's produced on whole new equipment set up in a much bigger studio so my production has matured a lot. The style varies a lot as I wanted to show all sides of me and in this way make a more personal album, to be more preciese it's everything between vocal tracks like "Hybrid feat. Cecilie Sadolin", pure fooling around tracks like "Memotech", chill out outro in "The Fridge", full on tracks like "Spin City" to progressive tracks like "Desperate House Beats". I'm very self critical but this time, without sounding too conceited, I'm very proud and I believe it's my strongest release so far.

Did you think copying kills music - or did file sharing makes the artist famous? What has been you experience with p2p and track-swapping?

In the perfect World everyone would buy releases and then I wouldn't have to work a normal job on the side but unfortunately we don't live in the perfect World. I see the real problem if people decide only to download and never buy. If people still buy the same amount and download on the side I don't see the big problem. It's kind of accepted because people don't see it as stealing because they don't feel like they take an object away from me or the label like you would if you stole my bicycle. It also depends on what your status is, I mean if you are a dj I think it's wrong if you play illegally purchased mp3s and get money for it. The same goes for producers if they make music only on illegal software and get money for it. This is not only stealing but also making money on it.
For promotion I think it's a good way to give people a chance to hear your music, I do the same on my myspace-site where I make certain tracks downloadable

Where do you see yourself in 5/10/20 years? Where do you see our scene in the future?
I see myself making another style for sure maybe house/electro, drum'n'bass, pop, synthpop etc. It all depends on how professional the labels, organisers etc. behave and the support from the audience. It would also be quite a natural thing for me to do as since I started making music I've always changed style to maintain a creative flow.
About the scene I think it mostly changes when a new act or label deliver a new style. Then a lot of people get inspired by this and suddently a lot of artists are working with this style and bringing it new ideas. At the moment I believe the area between progressive and full on is really open for new ideas so I hope the next big thing will happened within this area. Other obvious things would of course be that all releases will be in mp3 or some simular format and that we'll work in soround sound.

Your definition of luck & satisfaction? Maybe anything to tell about "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll"?
I'm not very rock 'n' roll and I've never tried drugs. I only smoke hashish occasionally

Your favorite musicians? Some beside trance? Please name some artists that really take you higher ...
First of all "Mew" always takes me higher. Before that The Beatles, The Who, Led Zepelin, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd etc. Within electronic music it must be names like Deep Dish, The Hacker, Spleen United, Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso, Trentemoeller etc.

Where could our readers see/hear you in the next time? Any special events worth to mention here?
31th of October near Düsseldorf and 24th of November in Munich

Anything you would like to tell the world?
Sure check out new Danish talents like Psypox, Aural Invasion, Bufo all on myspace.com. Within major names check out new albums from Justin Timberlake, Trentemoeller or Xzibit and the last albums from "Mew" or "Spleen United" they're all amazing!
