Hey all,
Do you guys produce in the same computer as you use for internet and all stuff; it implies using DAW, antivirus and a large amount of .dll (for pc).
If so, does it annoy in any way? In my case I’m now using dual boot (vista and xp) and xp only for producing; daw and plugins installed only. Sometimes I want to make some researches and I have to re-boot the computer to use vista… it is not very handy.
What do you feel about it? I didn’t find a specific answer for that.
tnx
=)

Hi!
I used to do that, but all the programs from my personal and professional pc use just clogs up the computer for music production.
Now I have a dedicated Rain Recording laptop for my music production with a XP partition just to make music. No anti-virus or just about anything else except Ableton, a couple of VST's and some drivers.
I also have a linux partition on my music production computer so I can use it as a second pc in my regular basis without interfering with the music production (compiling compiling compiling).
If you can, then purchase a computer to dedicate for audio production. If not, then your dual partition setup is a good solution, although it can be very daunting to have to reboot just to check an IsraTrance post or to lay down a riff you just thought of.
Another advice: get rid of Vista, it's a piece of crap, and put in something different (either XP or 7 in case of windows, or give linux a try )

It is online but just for uploading music or authorizing plugins. Don't use it for browsing. Too much crap on your music pc if you internet alot.

I go into the admin options in Win7 and turn off any internet related services when I want to really get serious, but for the most part I run Renoise, Reaper, and/or Ableton alongside the intarwebz. Its nice to have something not so CPU intensive to do when the proggys are rendering
Ive gotten pretty good at keeping all the net-crap segregated, Comodo firewall + BCWipe are my bros, they gots mah back.

I might give a shot and try internet and production together with my crap vista 64… for the moment I won’t get rid of my dual boot now coz I can’t deny that my XP is rock stable and it loads everything I have in a few seconds… my xp is online too but only for updates.

One of my friends told me that if you set up different user profiles on Windows 7, you can keep one profile solely for production that isn't online and isn't clogged up by non-production related programs.

That wont do any good, its still the same partition, accesses the same files, using the same windows.
But if you divide your harddrive into to partitions with 2 different operating system!.
And on topic!.
I have everything on my computer including my daw, id guess its not the best solution. But once you know how to treat you computer its all fine .

Same here, one computer with one profile for everything...but I know how to treat it right
I do Backups regular of all my important stuff (projects, documents and so on), which are saved to an external 2TB HD. So if something really bad should happen, at least the most important stuff is safe.
And if the PC should crash, I still have my notebook where my DAW and everything (except komplete, its too big^^) is installed too.
