k here it is.. i see allot of talk on here about how to create specific sounds from various tracks ect. For me what i am more interested in is interesting techniques in synth programming that can be applied to lots of different types of sounds that you are making so here it goes I have a few to start myself lets see what we can come up with here!
1. Add a mod envelope to the distortion amount in your synth! You can do this in sylenth and it can be beneficial to adding dynamics to your sounds especially leads
2. Get a nice tight lead going full of melody and then automate or assign an lfo to the release of the amp. also messing with a delay send at the same time can get some good stuff.
3. Use your envelopes in general especially a filter envelope!!
These are my tips... hope they are useful to some people.
Hit me back with some knowledge! |

4. try using a really fast envelope to fade between two oscillatore using different waveforms and different tunings so the transient "pluck" of the sound is more definable
5. Audio rate pan. no a very drastic type of effect but can give a air of uncertainty
6. little pitch detunings like vibrato and pitch envelope. no so pronounced as to be noticed can really help you warm up your sounds without fancey plugs and shit
7. switch of tempo sync on delays and lfos and dial them in.will help with everything falling on the same beat (if you dont believe me listen to hallucinogen)
8. inverted envelopes on filter ...then push the attack back so you get the usual downward sweep,,, this will give your env another stage and will make for a more fluid filter sweep

Mad FM bubbles that sync to tempo.
Take two sine wave oscillators, have one oscillator modulate the pitch of the other oscillator (Frequency Modulation), then take a Wavetable LFO (yup Virus has 64 of them), sync it to MIDI time/tempo and have it modulate the pitch of the second oscillator (carrier). The play really low notes, then play high notes and everything in between for synced up FM madness. Put that into a stereo ping pong delay and some reverb. Then you have psychedelic trance FX in one patch that vary wildly depending on which note you play. If you want to get even crazier, up the ring modulation parameter in the Virus.
Repeat this work for the downward spiral Twisted Records golden rayz Use an ramp down LFO to modulate the pitch of the carrier oscillator and at the on set of the note have the LFO rate at fastest setting, decreasing its rate to very slow by the end of the note. Alternatively you can use a second ramp down LFO that will run its full cycle for that given note length, to do this automatically for you without tweaking the first LFO's frequency. Then you have freed your hand to adjust the modulation index of LFO2 modulation of LFO1 rate, to your liking as the note plays.

this is good to keep the transient clean on some percussive sounds it can work nice..the opposite too.
in massive it s posssible to do it.
great topic ! |

create short pluck/burst with very fast decay to modulate osc pitch, kind of standar for lot of psy sounds, pluck sound, for some percussion it can work great too.
fm leads with 2 different osc tune for more grit, play the 2 osc at same tune ,detune one few semi tone til a sweet spot, then do a standar fm lead by using a lower octave on the osc that modulate the other one , find a other sweet spot with fm amount.
fm with hard syncro ,the hard sync make it easy to find loads of sweet spots..and you can modulate the synced osc with env or lfo , or detune it for a bit less standar sound...
filter with resonance and fm on the filter ,try a square modulating the filter fast ,some nice sweet spots depending the leads or fx.
FX /lead with lfo modulating the pitch of a hard synced osc (try lfo on random, sh.. )
buzzing leads...use very fast lfo with just a little amount on osc pitch till it buzz once it sound cheesy you re there lol, or little fm to do same tricks.. pulse width modulation can lead to some of these leads too.

i wish my xs had 2 sine osc using the filter as sine osc is a bit limiting...does it work nice with a usual lfo waveform? |

Honestly this just blew my mind. I cannot believe the sounds that are coming out of predator from this technique. Exactly what ive been looking for thank you!
I cant wait to put some of these other techniques to work.

Albino - Mod Matrix
connect lfo to cutoff filter or main pitch and play with different waverforms attack and pitch amount |
