This is aimed to all of the pepole that ever creates a party (outdoor/indoor)
in Japan.
well how much you have to invest to make a party?
include:
djs (local or from abroad).
party invitations (publication).
working staff.
renting a place for the party.
renting amplification.
bar (beverages & drinks)

all the answers for this subject will be welcomed!

thanks,

it varies widly depending on the type of party you want to make. this is all from what i have heard from people, as i haven't made a big party

a large place like differ will cost around $10,000 for the night (holds about 2000 people) and then you need to rent a soundsystem, security, lighting, deco, vj, lasers, dj fees, plane tickets, hotels, etc... it adds up quick! maybe up to $20,000-$50,000 for the party... oh and don't forget that the yakuza will probably want some money too...

a smaller place that holds around 200-300 people may cost you $2,000-$3,000 for the night. you probably won't need to hire security, can probably staff it all with friends and give them a bit of cash or free drinks for helping out, etc and maybe spend under $5,000 depending if you use local dj's or fly them in and how much the dj fees are...

a really small place (50-100 people) might be even cheaper or they might do something where they take part of the entrance and you could make a party for under $1,000...

some people even put on free parties where the dj's play for free, people deco for free, the club is free and they just make money off drinks. these parties are generally on weeknights and are not usually very big as you might expect, but usually the vibe is excellent as people are all helping out and really want to be there...

and of course you have to remember that prices vary alot based on your connections, what's happening on the same night, what time of the year or day of the week it is, etc.

so basically, it totally depends on what the organiser decides that they want to do with their party...

i hope that helped a bit... hehe...

I'm interested in this too.
Does anyone know of good venues for an outdoor festival 5000+ people?

Someone already told me about Naeba. Any others?
Also due you need permits for this?           The music was like new black polished chrome

To answer your question. To rent clubs in Tokyo on a Saturday night is very expensive. About 450,000 yen for a medium size club that fits 500 people.

About 1,000,000 yen for a club that fits 1000 people.

Sound systems and performance fees and airtickets and hotels are added on top of these and yes yes unfortunately Yakuza money is needed. This is a big problem in Japan.           The music was like new black polished chrome

Thanks onisans!

trojan - your answer almost cover all my questions.
i didn't excpet for a low price in Japan since it is one of the most expensive (Takai ne?!?!) countries in the world...

on more thing is about thost nature parties:
should i pay or rent a place outside??
(i'm not talking about a park or nature reserve) just to find a nice place in a wide open somewhere... is it possible in Japan?
if so, can anyone give some places names for a nature party land in Japan?

about the yakuza fellows: sure they will take money but they can make problams too?

last thing:
if i want to make a party (200-300 pepole) i'm talking about local djs pary with the most low costs, someone is willing to join me?           畜生!! 外道!!

Well, to answer some of your questions.

If you want to do a party without any permits etc... Its a gamble(a lot of organizers gamble like this in Japan)
Sometimes you get stopped, sometimes you dont.
if you got the worst of luck, you get yakuzas that thrash your party(mabye cuz the sound is too loud, your doing something in their territory, etc...).

Yakuzas most likely wont take money at all. I have never heard of organizations paying money to Yakuzas(at least for tokyo organizations).

I used to organize events at Yokohama Bay Hall, Matrix, Cube, Spiral and a couple of outdoor raves.
I have never paid a yakuza or had a visit from a Yakuza. Although they were at the party, enjoying it.

Everything in Japan is about connections(probably the same everywhere). The right connections, you get a good price. No connections and your going to be spending a lot of money throwing parties.

So HIKARI, you're saying that i just have to find a nice place & hope it will not disturb anyone?
if i want to be less risky about my party,
should i ask for a confirmation from anyone?
(yakuza or local pepole?)
what about the police?
could they close my party when ever they wants or only if someone inform on me?

I say go for it, but dont expect too much. There are many good parties that started as free outdoor gatherings but they took many years to build up. This is underground style. They have loyal following and when they clash with big parties their numbers actually go up!

There are other groups that do bigger parties with international acts from the start but many of these fall. Their following is not so loyal and if they clash with other big parties their numbers go down and lose money.

YOU NEED CONNECTIONS!
Location / Venue
Sound System
Artists
Market
Staff
Decor
...etc.

As Hikari said it can get very expensive. Connections can make things a lot cheaper.

And perhaps as important as connections, you will need a very good level of japanese, and patience. Expect some barriers built in front of you, because japanese people has a lot of them when dealing with foreigners. No offense intended to the japanese in this forum, but this is true. I wish you luck. I do not dare throwing a party here in Japan, but I admire the ones who do.

Peace and Love.

Good advice Goa-Ganges but there seems to be many foriegn organizers in Japan. Off the top of my head...

Vision Quest
Labyrinth (Mindgames)
Dat Mafia
Earth Energy (Psy16)
Solaris
Yabai
Flying Kamoshika

... any others?

About the barriers, I've had mixed experiences with this. I've found some organizers really friendly and helpful. Good Luck with your party!           The music was like new black polished chrome

the biggest barrier is not being able to speak japanese fluently... if you can't, you really need a partner who can... without a good grasp on japanese, you will not be able to negotiate with many of the people that rent clubs, equiptment, etc... you really need a partner who speaks japanese fluently...

i bet most or all of the organisations that ken listed have someone involved that speaks japanese fluently...

LSD25,
Well if you find a good location away from homes.
I would say go for it. Don`t make it a big party, just keep it underground. I think you can make a good party.

As soon as you start handing out them flyers, you get people that dont have manners, they park cars everywhere, and then you get the police coming.

As a lot of people say, when you throw a party make sure you have a person that speaks japanese fluently. It`ll be easier on you.
