very good idea.. and a very human one.
it's so rare to find commercial enterprises making decisions and producing solutions for those who don't have so great money to give...
my civilizated-burned side says: where are they hiding the profit they seek? but me says: great guys!
I'm aiming at AMD too, working for a Athlon64 laptop these guys have a decent policy

It's simple, they're looking to enlarge their makert, they can't simply live knowing that a big percentage of world's population lives in underdeveloped countryes and can't afford to buy their products.
This way they reach a bigger gobal market...
still, how many people in those countryes will be able to pay for net access? even here in Portugal is very expensive... cable access is about 35-50€ a month wich is still very expensive for most families since our minimum wage is about 350€ and there's whole families w/ kids living from only one minimum wage and very little support ...
