Intel just came out with a new processor the "Intel Centrino Duo"..It has a 2MB Power Optimized L2 cache & 667 MHz FSB..You should definitely get this one..

This really sucks though coz i just got a new laptop a month and a half ago & now they've come out with this new processor!!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

centrino sucks compared to pentium M. But the M's aren't all as good either. You need an M from the 740 series, those from the 520-530-540 series are significantly less performant (and i mean significantly...). But the Pentium M 740's are the best intel cpu's for portables, without a shadow of a doubt, they even outperform P4's that have a higher clockspeed

I used to have a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz now i've got a 750 (1.86ghz centrino) & there is no comparison! My projects used to suck up 70-80% cpu on the p4 now i'm down to 20% cpu usage its really sweet!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Ok ... so ... centrino is not a type of processor but a kind of certificate by intel to ensure that a laptop has a certain set of products (e.g equiped with a Pentium M processor .. or an intel based mobo chip e.g.).
The Dothan 1.7 (735 i think) is a very good cpu and will
for sure run cubase smoothly (that is if you're not planning on loading a dozen of korg legacy vsts ) , i'd suggest doubling up the ram though ... but no biggie , you can buy another 512 or more later on.

hey there... can you describe or give the model name your old laptop and the new one, cauz i think theres another factor that enhanced your rig performance in the change you are not taking in consideration.           (www) DarkPrisma.com.ar/ ~ FranticNoise.com.ar/ ~ Megalopsy.com.ar/ ~

I have a laptop with exactly this spec and it runs fine. I use it on stage to run Legacy Cell, IMPoscar and a bunch of VST plugins live inside SX. It will also run Traktor v2.5 and Nord Modular editing software at the same time with no glitches.

Of course, it all depends what you want to do on Cubase, but that laptop is fast enough for most things. More memory would help both of us though .           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Well i used to have a Dell Inspiron 5150 (P4 3.0 GHz, 1GB RAM) now i have a Inspiron 6000 (1.86Ghz centrino, 1GB DDR2-SDRAM (533MHz) Dual-channel )

I think the increased performance is also due to the 2MB L2 cache, 533Mhz FSB & the faster ram on the new laptop..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
