ok good. thx jizy.
i guess my bass is being a bit selfish with taking space with lp @ 12khz

lp the bass @ 6 - 8khz doesn't sound very different so i'll save some space there.

do u guys make it a rule to cut every instrument below 35hz or so, to get rid of the very low rumble? or should i leave it for the master?

Hey dude,it's a genral rule , but it's mixing we r doing not mastering so cutting at 40-45hz leaves headroom.

Note: when mixing think of it as working in 3 dimensions, panning which is your X-axis , frequencies low to high is your Y-axis and volume and reverb is your Z-axis.

its a good way of visualizing your mix in your head, how and where to place your elements =)

I like to think of it as a 4d Puzzle

and don't use 2 similar leads at one time.

hmm, my experience is another...
i discovered, playing the same lead with 2 different sounds makes the sound full.
you can cut a hole with eq in one lead, and at the same freq.range you push the frequencies at the same spot in the other lead.

cheers

Cut below 40-45Hz. I've been told that anything 50Hz and below will clip the woofer.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

That depends on the overall signal. Sometimes I cut 2 Poles at 45, sometimes I cut 1 Pole at around 80- even 110hz.           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
