xrust do you take your drivers from toshiba website ?

mines all come from there (not the intel ones).

go to their website and to the download drivers section. select the "model number" according to the first number on your notebook serial.... (PSAE6 in my case, yours also as I checked) and select XP as operating system.

all drivers that cames from here works for me...

It is often recommended to use manufacturers drivers for notebooks (in this case impossible to install another ATI drivers...)

Just don't use the old "robson package" and install instead the latest intel chipset & matrix storage drivers (you need to install it again in windows).

Tell me if you can't download them, i'll make a bulk upload of the latest ones ..

there is one tricky thing with realtek drivers under XP, It will then detect your sound ca

You need to install first a hotfix that is contained in the archive, the file "KB*****.exe"

it will ative something called "UAA bus driver for HD audio". Then it will detect your sound card and you'll be able to install drivers.

That's indeed true if you go via proper channels, but there's also non-proper ones
Check this out:
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/

I have an oldish HP nc8000 lappy with an onboard ATI Radeon 9700 chip now running Vista. HP offers no Vista support on this model and the GFX driver on their page is outdated and doesn't work on Vista at all...

Using Mobility Modder I now happily run the latest Catalyst drivers without any problems

Back to the OP's audio drivers issue:

Try updating Windows with the latest hotfixes using WinUpdate, then try installing the drivers from Toshiba. If that doesn't work you can sometimes bypass the laptop manufacturer by installing drivers directly from the individual chip manufacturer. According to Toshiba you have a Realtek chip. You could try downloading and installing the drivers directly from them. They have a couple of different versions available if I remember correctly (AC97 and HD). You need to know which one you have. I tried getting direct links for you but their website was acting up so you can try yourself:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/

From experience the Realtek installers will simply not allow you to proceed if they detect you have incompatible hardware so you shouldn't worry about messing up your system. If it won't install it doesn't work...

Hope this helps

hmmm...
Have you uninstalled the drivers that didn't work?

How does the audio device appear in the control panel ?
Does it just say something like Multimedia Audio Device or something like that ?
Or does it actually detect the device name but has an exclamation mark next to it?
Have you installed a normal copy of WinXP Pro/Home with SP2?
Meaning no modified Lite/Tiny installs...?

It would be best if you uninstall all audio drivers if you haven't yet and also system restore windows to the time before you started fiddling with audio drivers. At least this would provide you with a "cleaner" starting point.

No!! Don't give up. I had the same problem with my Acer Aspire though, and I tried everything to get it running. Finally I bought myself a cheap 7 Euro USB soundcard, im only using the lappy to make music with headphones while on the road anyway.

Vista will give you more problems than this, guaranteed

Hi Xrust,
Can you help me?, please...
I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S7458 and I'am also angry at win vista.
I'd like to know where did you find the SATA drivers and how did you burn your cd? I made one win xp cd with nLite but didn't work well.
Where did you insert the driver into de CD? at the root? or at any folder in particular?...
Please help me...
