I thought this could be a fun topic. Has anyone gotten an inspiration for a sound or anything else production related from a really odd or funny place (like stepping on something, dropping an object, even farting)? I figure since so many psy sounds are random and weird that somewhere along the line you've heard something and thought it would sound neat in a track.

I love to cook hot potatoes with cheese, ham, salt n pepper... when i take them out of the microwave they are really HOT and steam coming from insideof them produce this lovely sounds, like really detailed pitch lfos that inspire my mind xD
Also i have many doors at my place that squelch pretty wicked since they need oil.
But the most inspirating sounds i get from nature... there is this bird living outside my window that sings this cool patterns, really nice sound like pitch modulated by this crazy envelope, the birds sings the same pattern over and over just varying the end phrases... i love the sound and inspires me too much.
Other nature sounds include: wind, ocean waves, animal sounds, insects, etc...
That's pretty much it, not counting the tons of sounds and riffs in my mind that moment between being asleep and awakening... don't know why i wake up with many ideas but most of them fade out during the day tho :/

while were at kitchen and birds singing, theres these strange glasses I have, when u bang them they sound like metal ball bouncing until it stops on the table.. I wanted to record it but..
And birds, yeah I also have birds in front of my window and I actually sampled them and used in one old track of mine, it was cool..
once I heard birds in one acid track, birds go on singing some pattern and that pattern transforms into acid line, just awesome..

I searched all over you tube and cant find that old school acid track with birds transforming but it pretty simple, u take some bird pattern and recreate it with acid and then just cross-fade the loops.. but no use byting that, its unique
also I dont have online that track with my "local birds" since its very old..
I used my kitchen blender once as a build up whoosh sound..
but that trakc is also not online..
however, there is remix of that track some local guys did, u can check it out here, its almost first sample at start of the track
http://www.myspace.com/5yn74x first track in the player Acidkills - Rhythm machine(Syntax RMX)
(Acidkills was my nick once)..
also once while returning home from a party there was this divine silence in the train, silence I never experienced before, and I had a chance to record the hydraulics of a train door which sounded too psychedelic, unfortunately quality of rec. on cell phone is too bad to use it..

Talking about public transporation i always think about the air compressor that public buses have and they usually free the compressed air when opening the door... it's like white noise with quick filter envelopes but the real air sound is very powerful and tight, something i'm looking foward to record or synthesize xd
Also here in Mexico we have this knife sharpeners that go around the streets on a bike, they carry a small pan flute that make this very specific sound, it's like a small flute with few tones... always wanted to sample that.
We also have people selling baked bananas or camote (a kind of candy from a cactus)... this guys push a typical kind of cart in which they contain their goodies, this cart is like a mobile oven and it has this pipe that acts like a vent or exhaust duct but is also designed to produce a huge pitching sound when steam is liberated, announcing their camotes coming to you
Check it out it is the first sound at the opening video... i hate the flavor of those things tho.

I used to have a microtrack portable recorder and in the month I owned it (I sold it to afford my current monitors) I recorded SO much cool stuff that I used in lots of tracks that helped give it a much more organic feel.
I miss it so much (but I did get some K&H0300 out of it!) when I get some spare cash I'll buy another portable mic.
My favourite recordings were M&Ms spilling into a granite worktop and a ruler being twanged over the edge of a table and being moved longer and shorter.

I was working on a track once and there was this weird repetitive noise coming from the bathroom next to me, I guess something wrong with the sink. It was repeating in a really strange triplet rhythm but perfectly in sync with the track I was working on/playing for over 2 minutes. I ended up adding the rhythm in one of the main percussion loops with a hi hat.
You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?
