i tryed to insert a limtier via a group channel, and routing it to the stereo output in nuendo (the final output)...the problem was that the computer crashed...

o.k...so i tryed a different method...i inserted the limiter on the stereo output itself...it worked, untill i bounced the track...afterbounced, the file did not sound at all like it did prior the bouncing...some areas where louder, and caused actual distortion (wich was not present during the mix)...i am using an rme multiface I,
and i did set the asio connections proparly...i think my routing is wrong...

anyway, how do i rout an entire mix, proparly to a final limmiter...(if via a group channel or directly on the final output)...?

thanx

You don't put ANYTHING on the master channel. No need for limiting. all your compression should either be on group channels or on the individual channels themselves. I'm not sure why your computer crashed. I sometime use limiting on certain problematic group channels where a few peaks just get a hair louder than I want, but for the most part if you control the dynamics of each individual part and make sure you don't have too many frequencies that bunch up, you should not really even have to limit group channels very often.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Saying that you dont put anything on your master channel is a bit rough, this really depends... In my opinion..

sometimes its a good thing to make sort of a premaster chain on the master just to hear how it sounds.. maybe you used too much reverb somewere and didnt notice it before you boosted the track...

The way i do it for tests and for quick premaster is to put it on the master channel.. maybe you notice that your mix is badly mixed and that you have too much bass in there, or whatever it might be...

you can try putting a Eq before the limiter and attenuate the low freqs... and maybe reinforce some high freqs... but remember this is just for test and for a simple and quick premaster.

but like mubali says, work on your mix and dont put anything on the master, it will just make mixing difficult and you will make wrong decision about volume most probably.... best is to treat everything separately..

Again put it on the "final output" if you must

Cheers..

hi people thanx for the replyes...i am talking generaly here (well, to be speciefic i mixed down a sound for a movie, not a track, so there wernt too many channels, and each group, vocals, spots, fx etc...was bussed to a group with individual compressors and sound proccesors as necesery, but the mix dos sound goos) i guess, that in nuendo it is easyer to lob on the limiter or whatever processor, because in nuendo group and fx channels dont "like" to be sent to any channels, unless you output them directly form the group output and not via a send...(unlike pro-tools for example were its easy to send from aux groups (similar to "group" in nuendo...do) anyone know though why afer the bounce the mix sounds differently then the final mix whyle its still on the sequecer?...
my asio setting are propper as far as i checked...
one thing i can think of is that i am using an rme sound card with a pcmcia card conected to my desktop (wich i baught aspecialy a pcmcia slot for) as oposed to the pci card usualy used...but thats just a hunch...i havnt found any info on that...

thanx alot guys for your replyes.
