Also, dude, the "Freeze" function is almost worthless.

Indeed. Upgrade to Sonar where you can edit frozen tracks.

Thanks for the advice might check it out

But "upgrade" might not be the best word to use no...?Aren´t both supposed to be at the same level?

More or less but I like to tease Cubase users.

All in all I much prefer Sonar. There is one feature I miss: being able to grab the end of a clip to time stretch it. Other than that Sonar has quite a few interesting features that Cubase doesn't have.

hehe alrighty gotta give it a try

but were you a cakewalk user before going to sonar?
I know some sonar users, and they where all cakewalk
user b4 so for them some things in Sonar are much more intuitive than in other sequencers (at least is what they say....)

Yes I used to use Pro Audio before Sonar. But that doesn't change the fact the Sonar has a better work flow.

Anyway, some interesting features:

- Freeze a track, cut up and fully edit the frozen audio
- Dump any loop of any tempo into a track, press CTRL-L and it is automaticly stretched and tempo mapped. Automate pitch/pan/gain of any of the slices. (Built in ACID loops basicly).
- Insert VSTs and effects into clips that affect only those clips and not the entire track. I'm not talking about applying an effect to a clip. I am talking about real time stuff that is fully tweakable and automatable .
- Turn any audio into a V-vocal clip where you can hand draw, automate or use an LFO to alter the pitch, the timing, the formants or the dynamics of the sound. (Kind of Auto-Tune+Live features).

- Add and route sends and busses on the fly during playback. Route any bus to any other bus. (No need for aux sends or group track. A Bus will do it all).

- 64 bit audio engine, sampling rate up to 500Khz.

- NOT truncate the word length when exporting 32 bit audio to 16 bit (like Cubase and Nuendo do!)

The two above points are important: Better sound!

- Use included Lexicon And Voxengo convolution reverbs and built in Sonitus EQ in every channel (+ other Sonitus plugins as inserts + several nice softsynths).

- Sonar will have VST 2.4 as a free upgrade this week. Before Cubase and Nuendo even though it comes from Steinberg ... (You see why I tease Cubase users ? )

- NO stinking dongle! CakeWalk respect their customers and don't treat them like criminals.

Those are just a few things of the top of my head.

Those all sound like cool features... but how CPU hungry is all that? The clip-VST-insert thing sounds like it would be brutal.

That vocal effect thing sounds rad... here's hoping Steinberg rips that off soon           http://soundcloud.com/aeon604

Now thats just delaers sell-out as it makes no point using such a sample rate

But you´ve convinced me anyway i´ll give it try as soon as I get the oppotunity

I ´m one of the sad logic fans who had to give up logic due to the Mac move, although I´m getting to know Cubase quite well I´m still not convinced with some things in the work flow....i don´t like the way vst tracks are treated (one midi track + vst track) it makes the mixer become really confusing after some tracks. Automataion also same problem, after some tracks becomes quite confusing....how are these in sonar?

I´m open to testing some other sequencers who knows I find one that suits me best....

And also the lexicon reverbs have been a reason i´ve thought about trying it befor...waht about the other FX (delays, eqs, chorus, flagers etc) are they good?

Ok, now I´´ve reeeaaalllly gone compleeeetelly

Are folks still using SX2? I can't imagine going back to life without a VSTi channel strip in the arrange window. Upgrade, people!

I'm still using SX2 here as well. I've yet to find anything about it that I feel terribly inconvenienced by and the additions in SX3 don't really justify the cost of upgrading yet in my opinion. Someday when I have a few extra dollars floating around I'm sure I'll upgrade, but until then I'd prefer to learn the version I have more deeply.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

I agree that it gets confusing, but I just click on the button to hide the midi tracks and problem solved.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

Yeah I also have MIDI tracks hidden, but due to the way thinks work, the mixer and the arranje windows tracks order don´t match wich is really a shittty thing imo...(unless the vst track is dragged to be under the midi track in the arrange, but again - messy!!!!)

You can drag that VST automation track up into the folder.

Whenever I use a VST automation track, I drag it up so it sits directly below the MIDI track it's afffecting. Easier to see what's going on, and if you drag/delete something its easy to select the automation right along with everything else.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think dragging the whole VST-folder in that other folder is the solution because it's still not "linked" to the data on the coresponding midi-track.
So the VST-automation will not be copied when copying the midi-data of one VST-instrument.           www.myspace.com/ephedrix
