Hi friends, I am currently experimenting with sonnox inflator (sounds esp. nice when placed after reverbs) but, does anyone know the difference between this plug in and a std. compressor? or am i just turning up the volume by using this plug? or... is this at all related to compressors in peak mode vs. RMS mode?

Thanks...

Inflator is not a dynamics processing unit, which is clearly written in the second paragraph of its manual.

Thereofore you may use it together with compressor.

Basically you are turning up the volume, but in a very unique and specific way, maximizing the apparent loudness without changing levels.

BTW though the plugin has little what to tweak the manual is very useful - recommended.

the sonnox inflator I believe is a harmonic exciter, it does not compress like a real compressor. So I think they are really different things

IT works really good on basslines (if I am not mistaken about the plugin,I always mix them up lol).

Put it on bassline mixer channel, put the gain knob up and output knob the way you want it,and it adds nice harmonics to bassline instantly (something Ive read here, and it works really good),some cool ass distortion.           From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)

Stopped using it since mixing got better and i get to the loudness i want without it.
To put it on idividual channels ?
Its just a matter of taste. I have no reason to add harmonics this way.
Almost everything can be done within the synth.
Synthesis is the MOST powerfull tool in electronic music. It gives you the most accurate results. So if i want to add harmonics or reduce them here or there i would do it in the patch.
So ask yourself this. "Why i want to bring the inflator in ?"           http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers
Wierd shit happens :)

Daark, I don't agree. Saturation is one of the most important tools which help build that amazing nasty tough colorful big sound.

Don't get me wrong, I sure agree that tweaking a patch is still the most important part, but saturation of some sort, same as spice, really goes nice with well-prepared food. You won't be eating spice by itself, nor it is not a good idea to mask badly prepared food with lots of spices. But next time when you tweak an amazing patch put there some saturation. You may use only 10 or 5 or even less percent of wet signal but it can yield outstanding results.
