Ahoy.

Ive been listening to the new Infected Mushroom cd recently - IM The Supervisor - And I can hear the 'infected' sound has changed dramatically! Bigger bass, Full on beats, crisp percussion and some interesting vocal trax.

The production is seriously close to perfect, and i'm left sitting here wondering how the hell they do it. It's also a lot louder, almost double the average setting for which i'm curious.

Can someone tell me anything they know about whats in that crazy IM studio, anything at all. I know they use Cubase, but thats about it. Also any information on the process they go through when they make a track or how they get it to be so ... crisp and clean.

Thanx

They have som 'ok' gear but not alot really. They have the Eventide Orville, wich i think they use alot (for reverb and wierd pitch shifting vocal fx), and the Neve 2 channel, wich is very nice highend gear but the rest is just midrange gear that most people can afford. So i guess they must be very skilled. hehe

Actually I don't like their they newer productions. They are to clean, bright and sterile, and lack the warmth and punch that Classical Mushroom had. B.P Empire had a different sound but I liked it alot (the lowend is crazy!) but CV was pretty bad imo. Try listening to Song Pong and any track from Classical Mushroom - say Mushi Mushi. What!! Song Pong is SO thin. Mushi Mushi is beefy and warm. Love it.
I think that Deeply Disturbed is ok. Sounds different from that other tracks on the Trance side. Kinda sounds like a B.P Empire track.

Ahh just had to let it out. Sorry

I havnt listened to IM The Supervisor but I can only assume that its more or less the same. Could be wrong.

Yeah, when I listened to it, I made the same observation. That they sacrificed musicality for the sake of clean production. But it is still great. not Classical mushroom great though. Like the Shen, or bust a move. You can hear 100 sounds playing together sometimes and it is not as clear sometimes, but it has that extra something.
To answer your question, Glitch, if you are after the infected sound, get a Nord Lead. This is the main lead synth they use. If you are after infected mushroom mastering, you'd better give up. It will take you a decade to be as good.

Getting the same synth as IM does not automaticly make you sound like them. I know that Astral Projection also has a Nordlead so you might accidently end up sounding like them instead if you buy one.

My point was with my previous post that they are very skilled, so its not all about the gear.
Ofcourse some of the gear they have, has got a destinct character so getting that piece *might* get you a bit if their sound, but that just one TINY step of the way. But anyway why try sound like them? There are other ways of sounding good. Make one up yourself!

Its not about the nord....almost half the psy studios must have a nord....

For me the most characteristic thing in IM is the notes variations they make. Every album was unique, but always with the infected touch in my opinion.

I think this last album is much more dance oriented than the previous one (mostly because of the basslines) of course its not so mad and crazy like the old infected stuff, wich we all loved and miss so much, but ppl grow and start doing more mature stuff, i think that´s what they did...

Correct FluoSamsara!

IM uses alot Transylvanian moods, sometimes they paste in the middle end very warm and cool progressions (Dancing With Kadafi). I like the way they are evolving in production schemes. Musicians they are, and every new album they sound cleaner, and there is no comparison between their first and last songs...

Hi.
From what people who know them have told me, Infected used extensivly for thier new album the Creamware Scope modular system, and especially the Adern Flexor collection of modules.
