Heard about this problem.
I just feel sorry for Infected and VQ.
Maybe VQ did have a slight problem with the way they handled the problem, but this kind of stuff happens all the time in Japan.
Its was just bad timing and luck.

Infected will come another time.
Im pretty sure VQ is thinking of something to make up for this problem.

For VQ's sake, I sure hope they are thinking of a damn good way to make up for this 'slight problem', since from looking at the VQ forum and hearing from others, it seems like this is an irreversible mistake. For the poor souls who paid 7000 yen (US$70) to see IM play and got cheated, I don't blame them for being angry. Many people had heard of something about IM having problems entering the country, and ASKED the door people and staff about it, only to be told, 'Don't worry, they are coming any minute now. they are playing at 3 am!' and so they paid the ridiculous sum and entered, only to find out they had been deceived. They even made up some story on their site about how they were rushed to the hospital, which they retracted after they found out IM made a contradiicting statement on their own website.

To me, it just shows how little they care about the dancers, and focus only on making a profit. The sad thing is, even from a strictly business point of view this is a piss poor idea (of lying to the people to get them to enter the party anyway), as it looks only at the short term profits and does not consider the long term consequences of alienating their customer base, who had put up with so much already in terms of high costs, bad crowd, etc etc.
For their sake, I do hope they at least make an apology and offer some kind of refund/discount, if they hope to bring back at least some of their customers. Reading their forum is pretty funny, their mods are desparately erasing the messages filled with expletives, but they can't keep up with the overwhelming number of posts.
For the non-Japan residents, this is a good example of how low the commercial trance scene in Japan (at least TOkyo) has gone. I hope those people here in Tokyo wake up and stop shelling out so much cash to these people, and start supporting people who are out to change the scene.
Just my two bits on one very laughable fiasco,

Funny both the Japanese and English forums look like they have been completely erased and restarted as they are only two pages deep history wise. The English page has nothing about the IM deportation happening while the two pages that are there on the Japanese forum are nothing but it. Strange that the "Other Party" forum still goes back pages and pages. Oh yeah, its VQ, what do you expect.

As a side note, if anyone is thinking about picking up The Gathering 2004 DVD don't waste or money. The original "preview" they posted made me think it was going to have lots of live performances like the 2003 DVD, but the end product has maybe 5 minute make of live performances at terrible sound quality to boot. The rest is just video from the party over regualr old CD tracks. Some documentary of an event (rolls eyes).           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

Yeah, these things happen, but for the organisers to tell ppl @ the party, 'don't worry they will be on soon', and then later post on the promoters website that one of them was sick....that's pretty f@#ked! They could have just made an announcement @ the party stating that immigration deported them and that way ppl would have been disappointed, however these things happen and they wouldn't spend the whole night waiting and harassing the staff. On the Infected website, erez said that they would be happy to post the deportation papers and their boarding passes, showing that they travelled to japan, if anyone thought that they were lying. It really just dis-credits the promoters for future events by them lying. Next time they have a party with a big headliner, you think ppl won't be reluctant to go?

In regards to the 2004 DVD, most of you are right, it's not great, but me being me, had to buy it. I definitely think 2003 is heaps better. They do to much with special effect kinda things in 2004 which really pissed me of and not many tracks. My advice, if a friend or someone has it, borrow it so like me you can stop the curiousity, but don't waste your $ buying it yourself.

Please note - Japan is not at fault here. As Vision Quest is not a Japan Psy Event, although it is held in Japan the VQ Crew are not Japaneese. I was at VQ2004 and found the production, in particular the Video to be without direction. Projectors were in the crowd front projecting on the screens!!! Anyways... I think budget cuts have severally hammered the VQ team. I sadened to hear such wrong doings with this IM affair. Ohwell. Please note there are some really great crews in Japan. And when you go there i urge you to go to Japanesse Japanesse party!! Mana's is a fantastic example. Also checkout the Singapore connection with Psy16.......... peace....
P.S. I have ordered DVD and have both previous years 2003 & 2002. I will post honestly about it.

I agree with Twiggy, stuff like this happens - sho ga nai.
To lie to the punters is just wrong. I more often than not avoid big parties although I go to a couple every year.

There are so many awesome smaller to mid size parties in Japan often with better music and vibe. I say try the underground, most of the organizers are have their heart in the right place and making money is not as important!

For a truly "Japanese Party" with a 95% Japanese line-up and crazy Japanese Party People - MANAS!!! Optrix was spot on there! but dude, I dont know where you got the "Singapore" connection from for PSY16!!! The main guys are a couple of Aussies & Japanese with a Canadian & Greek helping out!

I can only think DJ Kemix was born in Singapore but only lived there until he was 3yo!!!

The underground rulz!!!           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

It's impossible Mad Factory! What will happen to the creative, challeging Vision Quest parties if Infected are not there to start that original, great, unique line-up that never repeats every year?
We must send PM Koizumi an open letter and ask him to prease, let IM back to Japan. Will you?

Peace and Love

Mad factory,

There is a HUGE difference between being denied entry and being deported. If you are denied entry at the airport, then you never in fact entered Japan. You can only be deported if you are IN Japan. For example, if you live here and let your work visa expire and keep on working, then there is a good chance you will be deported (unless you are from North America or Europe). After you get deported in such circumstances, then you cannot come back for five years.

If you are simply denied entry for visa problems, you can try to come back the next day if you want! But once you have been stopped once, your name is on a list so it is unlikely you would get in again without proper visa documentation. So all VQ has to do is fill out the paperwork and Infected Mushroom can come back whenever they want.
