sorry , just not interested in Shpongle much anymore, I'm sure there's folk that will enjoy this but I think they've had their day. I want Simon to write something deeper and more introspective , I just found the last album quite difficult to listen to in many places.

A November release... thanks for the info mattman. Wintershpongland this 2009! Can't wait!
@ O-I ... yeah the last album had heavy chunks that we're hard for mind digestion but in this era of performance I can't think of a psychedelic act more desired than them. They're pioneering the psy-sound in that respect... and the album sort of mirrored that.
Btw...have you followed the downtempo stuff put out by Peak Records? Fits into the same mood as classic Shpongle... Comosophy's album too. |

>Yidam , yeah really love Peak's output over the last couple of years - the next flooting grooves is much anticipated. Cosmosophy's debut is superb no doubt , some mindbenders on there that I'm still really enjoying. (ha - it's only a few months old!)
Back on topic - hear what you say about Shpongle , for sure the pioneers in this genre , I hope I like some this - just not really expecting it that's all. |

I got "Are You Shpongled?" for my birthday in 2000. It blew my damn mind. At the time it was the most intense, beautiful, intricately crafted piece of music (and make no mistake, that album was one single piece of music) I'd ever heard. Actually, it sounded like nothing else I'd ever heard in my life. It fit no definition. It was completely different.
I was fairly pleased with "Tales of the Inexpressible" but to my ear it was a little more "song"ish, maybe more accessible to a less adventurous, more mainstream listener, less adventurous. Still really good, though.
The third album, though... I ordered it from Twisted, put it on the second it came in the mail, and willed myself as hard as possible to love it, but failed. There are a couple of really exciting moments on there, but for the most part it just sounded ... lazy, I guess. Like they were just "doing Shpongle," recreating the signature Shpongle sound, without really trying to push the limits of the thing they'd created.
I will check out the new album. If it's halfway decent, I'll buy it. But I'm going to try and retain a healthy skepticism. |
