Hello there kids!
I was wondering if there was a way to squash more bass frequencies out of a kickdrum? i'd love to give mine a boost at around 80-110 to make it more powerful and fuzzy, if i try to do that with any equalizer it won't work, i already have a compressor on to make it punch, but it won't actually get more precence tho..

here's what it sounds like at the moment.

As if it supports Logic *cuts myself*
Edit: Oh, the Sonnox Oxford Dynamics?
well it LOOKS like a compressor to me. hahaha, i'll try to find a way to get the AU file Thanx?

Also, i compressed my kick like this:

Attack. 20.0ms
Ratio 2.4:1
Release 100.ms
Knee 0.4
Threshold -16

I'm trying to understand compression to enhance my production quality but it aint' easy eh?            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

the 80/110 hz it s just before the tail ,you need to use very fast attack and release to increase it (a comp with a sidechain filter could be usefull there so you don t compress the low),but i doubt you ll find a plugin that does it in a convaincing musical way.i know a distressor will do it right and make the kick sound better but it s the stuff i don t even try with plugins(but maybe some will do it right but using a eq could do the trick)

even if it s possible i doubt you re looking for a compressor to increase low end, it s more used as a envelop shaper on drums hit (envelop and frequencies are linked thought)

yup. i hardly ever use a compressor on my kick as it (of course depending on the settings) in most cases emphasises the first part of the kick which contains predominantly the high freqencies.

if you want more presence, why not boost a bit at around 3khz or lower the bass in volume, so that the kick comparatively occupies more of the low freqs?

You guys rock!, well, my EQ'ing already looks like this from before, together with that compression

+3 dB@ 140Hz
+6 dB@ 60 Hz
-8 dB @ 970 Hz
and the very high end is cut down with 24dB to get rid of the damn click sound, its low but it was still there haha.. ha.

i also cut a bit around the 20Hz since it can't be heard anyway. but yeah, i'll boost it at the tail then, it might work, but maybe i should also cut the tail a bit so that the kick won't be too long?

can t listen right now, but your eq setting surprised me,if it s what the source need... but it s a bit unusual to me.

what is important imo , is to use q value that sound detailed when it s needed. on kick try around 1/3 of octave and then use larger Q around 1 octave maybe for balance shapping.... but it all depends your source the sound you need... q value are stuff that should be tweaked carefully, usually you want your cut and boost to sound detailed and not vulgar ,that can make a very big difference in the end result.

That kick sounds pretty well equed, personnally i would add more around 10 khz to give that lil percussive feeling. Or else the only thing might be that he is a lil 1.5 db too loud compare to other elements, that might be personal.

Nice kick!           My music http://soundcloud.com/disrupted
