I emailed Tannoy, & they sent me a wideband whitepaper they had published about why you would want to have sound above 20 kHz.
They quoted several studies, about sound existing above 20 kHz, some having quite a bit there (40% of symbol energy being above 20 kHz). They said these ultrasonics affect the audible range frequencies, causing less phasing errors, particularly in harmonics. Googling this, it's a subject of debate, as several studies claiming they do have been debunked, while others appear to have credible data.
I started thinking about this, and while monitors producing above 20 kHz may affect the audible range, it would only be doing so on the speakers that can do this. Since I am using the monitors to mix well so that my sound translates well, the point seems to be moot.
However, after reading thru it, I did find 1 good reason for having monitor which produce above 20 kHz, and that is for linear responses in the audible range. Basically, they state that many monitors only producing to 20 kHz have a rolloff at frequencies in that 20 kHz area. By producing freqs above 20 kHz, the monitor has a more linear freq response at the 20 kHz range.

thats a myth. alpha brain waves and all that = hippy shit = myth
what speaker can produce 7hz? i bet nobody makes speakers with a range down to 7hz as there is no point, we can't hear it.
so thats a load of rubbish.

1. no myth (dont know about that alpha rythms stuff tough)
2. for example motor-driven subs were able to produce that low freqs, or organs in churchs...
so not thaaat much rubbish huh?

yeah organs, earthquakes n shit like that produce low freqs but wheres the proof that those low frequencies damage our health?
i can't see organ playing as a dangerous thing to do. |
