In which bit-depth you export/bounce your final mix? 16, 24 or 32bit?

All my projects are at 44.1Khz-24bit, as i'm doing a lot of recordings too. Although i have read that bouncing/exporting should always be done according to the project's bit depth, i find it that exporting in 32bit floating point bla bla bla, works the best for me. I find that it maintains the bounced mix exactly as it was sounding during the mix, which seems to be a common problem for a lot people who have reported that their bounced mixes sound different(worse) than how they were sounding out of their DAW during the mix.

I think that is caused by the daws internal processing being mostly higher than 24bit...logic for example works at 48bit internally if I'm right.
right now I'm bouncing at 24bit, and I dont really hear a difference between sound out of the daw and the bounced file.

It has been covered indeed, I can't find that thread immedtiately now, but my 2 cents would be to bounce at either 24 or 32 without dither.

No dither for both formats???
I have this question in my mind, and I have read many opinions... If the information is running at 32/48 Bits, so I can imagine that for exporting to 24/16 I would need a dither... Am I right???
But from what I´ve read(and listen), this is very intriguing topic. I heard a test when many ppl can´t say the difference between "dithered" and "truncated" files... I´m one of them.

I think in theory at least, its better not to dither at all than dither several times, because the noise would add up.
I'm not quite sure tough how this works out when dithering first down to 24bit and then down to 16bit, because the lower bits get removed (where the dither should be from the to 24 convertion), so it shouldnt make any difference if there was dither before or not...but these are just thoughts of mine, no science proved facts
I mean, dither is just used to round up waves that were cutted while truncation...and when you truncate that again, the part where the dither has been applied before would be removed...I THINK https://soundcloud.com/hazak

Generally I do prefer 32 bit myself for mastering...it does happen that I get tracks that have some overs or is recorded at a low level, and if the master is 32 bit float that is not an issue.
And if some engineer for some reason insists on 24 bit instead it's easy enough to convert, and you would think he is capable of doing that himself if he uses some strange system that cannot read 32 bit float directly.
I see very few reasons not to record as 32 bit float.
The only compelling reason to use 24 bit is to preserve disk space, but with 32 bit on top of the above mentioned reasons when it comes to avoiding eventual level issues there is also the benefit of avoiding the question of applying dither or not when going to 24 bit.
In the end it's probably hardly noticeable when it comes to the end result (unless you recorded 24 it with the levels way out), but to me it makes sense to stay in 32 bit while there might be more processing or bit rate conversions done later on.

What about Real Time Export? Does that make a difference to the quality of the rendered file too? |

what about for live sets where you're using something you mastered yourself? |

from float to integer you can use dither with no noise shaping if it s not the last process of the mastering. |
