Here are my 7 golden rules to artist paradise- agree or disagree they are mine in judging artists

1) whether you are an artist or not is in the eyes of the seeker

2) for me it is anybody who has lost himself in his art, anybody who shuts himself in that dark room inside his head and follows his inspiration

3) we are all artists to some extent so we must make the difference not between art and artist but between artist and genius - some artists follow a magic formula used by all while the genius will create something genuinely original and new, someone who pushes the boundaries of imagination

4) a true artist may keep all his creations to himself and choose never to release any track, maybe scared to get bashed by everyone (not like that never happened around here...) - so screw the number of releases you have, it just goes to boost the ego (to some extent)

5) artists sometimes are not recognized throughout their lives and we will only know the true genius by the legacy

6) a true artist, in my eyes, is someone who doesn't view money as an end to his means. money is an extra, a bonus - so he doesn't release his stuff to get more money but to please people or to share some new experiences

7) a true artist is someone who loves (and you can define that however you want but love is the key to emotions)

For me its like this.......
When somebody starts to master their "craft",
wich can be anything, then they are a true artist........
Its like having a "black belt" in painting, writing, or designing websites for that matter........
When u see a picture painted by a "black belt" painter........u can see the work of an good artist...
When u master your craft....then u start to express ART throug colour, sound, emotions, etc.
To be a master artist takes time, dedication, and a lot of passion for what u do.........no matter what u do.

To many though, claim their "black belt" before their time.....;-)

Man you put it so well. That's pretty much what I had in my mind           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

except that sometimes its hard to know oneself whether that particular piece of work is formula based or creative....

So if, for example, an artist does something, and for you it looks totally different... but then imagine what the artist did was just get some formula music and put it in reverse, and sell it... he did nothing.. but it SOUNDED creative...

or imagine someone had been living in a cave for many years heheh, and the only contact the person had with someone else was this guy that went there to give cubase and reaktor lessons hahaha (and obviously there was a computer and power generator in this cave, lol)..
now imagine the guy, without knowing anything from outside, sincerely makes somehting, creatively, and it sounds like gms.... Its not just the fact that it sounds like gms that it means the guy is copying, you know? It may be sincere creative music, that ended up by coincidence to sound like something that already existed, thus in the mind of someone who knows both artists, will sound like copying

Chopin sounded like Bach sounded like Mozart. They weren't artists coz they copied all stuff.            Signature

Excuse me, Bach lived before Mozart.

But someone who wrote Air on G-string, or Toccata and Fuga in D-minor in 18th century is a true artist for me.

Bach's music, after 300 yrs, can still leave a strong emotional impact on the listener, which qualifies him as a true artist in my eyes.

And nevermind the years.

If someone's music makes me feel better, or if it brings my emotions - he's an artist for me.

I don't know - I seriously believe that music can make one be a better person. True artists make that kind of music.

hip it was ironic, it doesn't matter who lived when. It was just an example, i could also say 6 feet under sounds like sepultura sounds like probot, coz they use the almost the same instruments.

So the same with psytrance, u can use the same lead again and again but it can be creative art. It is the way u use it and what u make with it.            Signature

That for me is true art - timeless quality. Something that still works emotionaly, standing outside of temporary limits.

You're pretty twisted if Air and The Marriage of Figaro overture sound alike to you. It's like saying that Metallica sounds very much like Eminem or Britney..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Maybe you should first EYB.

Whatever your statement was, it contained no irony.

Rhetoric, perhaps.

Hyperbole, possibly.

Ignorance, certainly.

Not irony.

[Now that is ironic...]

Of course it is ironic.

But it is not the point if it is ironic or rethoric. The point is that some people call artists copycats coz they use the same sounds. But u can use the same sounds again and again and can do great stuff with it.           Signature

can any discussion go on without someone deliberately going way offtopic? is it time to lock up yet another thread?
