Look, I know travellers topic is very provocative (and I personally don’t agree with it at all), but I just had to delete +10 posts from this topic because of it getting way to personal (once again I might add).
It’s a sad phenomenon lately, that some users of the forum (no names mentioned, but I’m sure you know who you are) take over the threads, and turn it into personal flaming and chaos, totally killing any constructive discussions going on.
If you don’t have anything constructive to add to the thread, don’t reply at all!

I think Traveller was just very unlucky in choosing the word "Artist"
Maybe it should have been something like - succesful producer, or successful musician or something like that.

If you are right and it takes another "true artist" remixing your work to become a "true artist", how does one ever become one?
In the beginning, there are no true artists before any work is released, right? Then some people release 2 albums or more, they are now closer to true artist status. However as there are no remixes yet by other true artists, noone is a true one yet. However, as there are yet no true artists, there will never be another true artist remixing your work, therefore keeping you from becoming a true artist.
Infinite regress leads to lack of true artists forever and ever.

How many artists made hundreds of art/music/paintings or what ever and were not recognised until they kicked the bucket
An artist you don't become one it's either you are an artist or you are'nt one, you don't study universaty to be an artist, it's either you have it in you or you don't !

Not that fond of making music myself. Sure as hell wouldn't put 100s if not 1000s of € on the necessary hardware. I do own a drumkit thou and play with them every now and then. I'm not the one to say who is or isn't an artist in general. However I do have the right to say what it takes imo to be a respectable one. What goes for ridiculous posts.. maybe you should visit the top ten section?

i agree and disagree:
an album which was produced in two months and sounds like a ripoff of anything else, cant be called a true piece of art imho.
yet there are true artists that never had a release til now (or only very little), for example lots of people in our forum. there are brilliant people out of there, but with all these close minded labels in our musicscene its hard to get real magnificient stuff released in between all the daily crap. van gogh didnt sell one picture in his lifetime..
but then again, who can judge what is art? i enjoy painters as andy warhol or mark rothko (who enjoyed painting a huge canvas in two different colours and now they're sold for a few 100'000 bucks each) and most of my friends who see their prints i have hanging in my room would never ever call this rubbish pieces of art.
or lets take african religious symbols and statues, they're sold in our country for a fortune sometimes, even though most african rites dont know and dont have a word that equals "art", because these statues are not art to them, but simple tools for meditation which get thrown to fire after the ceremony is finished.
its no that easy if you ask me traveller..in the end i guess, everything comes down to that there are no better artists that the ones coming from england which are signed to twisted records, right? we've heard it already.
