yes it depends what is on the track.... not just how much audio data (which will hit HDD performance) but what FX are on the channel.... for example if you record your MIDI to audio, then apply e.g. the roomverb M2 as an insert then your CPU is gonna be crying for mercy quickly......

I think a good idea is to bounce to audio, then apply FX, then bounce to audio again with the FX and EQ.... so long as you use a decent wav format (not 16/44:) then you wont notice any quality issues....

on the other hand i am guilty of not doing this sometimes cos I am scared that I am gonna want to change things in the future....
