i only use midi
and one, two audio channels
because i make audio stuff on my laptop....i make samples in fruity loops and add the fx there already. then i export to wave and play it via the loopazoid in cubase sx (on my pc). its my way to make music, some of you might think its too complicated and takes too much time, but for me its just simply perfect because like this i dont need much insert fx...
synths i usually have 3 - 5 different ones in my songs.

(i saw people who work with 50 to 100 channells!)
* what is EXS?
jeto your working with the nord in midi? i find the sound of the NL2 very dry and i almost never leave it clean stright out of it.

yes... but I use it say for instance.. get a sequence going
ta ta ta ta ta tata ta .... instead of playing it.. its easier to sequence it in Midi because its going to be exactly quantized to the way u want it rater than playing realtime. also after that u can bounce to Audio and add effects and EQ. I find it a good way to work.. you should try it sometimes.. if its just an effect thats not really much of a sequence then I just record live on the fly! |

I´m use cubase sx and upto 53 MIDI-channels for my hardware, 40 - 48 audiolines & 0 - 4 vsti. After sequencing i record all MIDI & put some fx on it...
(yes,... thats the right way Jeto, i´m use the same method and i´m always happy with ...)

by the final mixdown i'm usually about 25-40 audio channels, 5 stereo pairs from battery, 4-6 other vsti outputs, and no external midi tracks (all mixed down by that stage).
when i'm recording my live band things get silly. i get to drop the vstis, mostly, but i still have battery, and the audio channels run to 60+ ... you see to get a fat horn section I record them with three mics (one on each horn, one in the room), and record three takes, and layer, so that my horn section is 9 channels. MC usually takes about 3-4 channels, and my string quartet is using 18 i think!!
how do we manage it? erm... 2.4Ghz P4, 1GB RAM, Delta1010

the question is if the audio channels are sereo (meaning 12 and not 24 channels in bottom line..)
and what you have in this channel ( i guess small sampels rather than 24 leads and baselines.. )
but if saying you have 200 audio open channels makes you feel good i say go on with it...
