i think its sounding pretty nice actually...
i hope im in the right track here in regards to reverb cuz its still a mystery for me...
i wanna know if you do use impulses, what impulse is good for what?
so far i only tried a forest "simulator" impulse and it sounds pretty sick for outdoors!
please let me know

please explain this a little more. what do you mean by "impulses"? is there a specific vst you're using?

I haven't really used convolution reverbs much.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

Audioease Altiverb, Knufinke SIR (Free)
I think that, PsyTrance don't need a that type of reeverb. Its more for orchestra or movie, where sound of real room is needed. In Psytrance we have a synthetic music where we just need a good synthetic (generated) reeverb.
Maybe for sfx...

You can find in internet many free impulses           http://www.beatport.com/release/cross-the-atoms/1042450

They sound great, but are CPU expensive
If you got a big box, go for it           .::New Boole CD The Vital Few out now::.

I have a convolution reverb, and I have used it with Psy Trance, interesting...
oh and yes, they are quite cpu intensive!          Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

i use SIR sometimes. convolution plugins allow you to load impulse responses of any space or process, including guitar cabinets etc... so you can load FX programs from high-end reverb or multifx units and use them. there are lots of impulse responses from really high-end units out there (i have Lexicon, Bricasti and TC Electronic).

so sometimes yes it works nicely...

however as i understand it the penalty you pay usually is that the impulse response itself is a static snapshot from which the actual verb is reverse-engineered. whereas reverb hardware is dynamic. i have a real Lexicon reverb unit and it just doesn't compare... the algorithms react to the input signal, it's so much more alive and realistic. you have much better control and, thanks to dedicated hardware, more power...

but for getting the inside of that cave or tunnel or cathedral convolution can be wonderful.

p.s. Saii, i really hate Ableton's reverb too... it sucks.

hey,

here are a few free reverb plugins i like...

Ambience:

http://magnus.smartelectronix.com/

it's good for long verbs and has a nice denseness to it. capable of some nice room sounds as well. it does long synthetic reverbs really well... you can turn the CPU consumption down until you're ready to render to save power.

Verbiage:

http://www.stillwellaudio.com/?page_id=21

this is an awesome reverb, i like it for drums. you can get some awesome hard plate sounds out of it. not too heavy on CPU either.

MoVerb:

http://steelberryclones.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/moverb-free-reverb-vst/

i've only just downloaded this and haven't had time to check it out properly, but already using it in my latest track... i think it sounds quite promising.

when i really want the reverb to be the star i use the Lexicon. when it's just one part of the sound i use a plugin. it's like... driving a Ferrari on a racetrack but a Fiat to the shops

i can post some tips about ableton but i don't use it much anymore... there are probably other people happy to help if you have any questions though post them!
